No Shell Strong Enough to Keep my Heart from Breaking.

So one of my favorite characters in the Sonic comicsverse is Mighty the Armadillo, the strong arm of the Chaotix. One of Mighty's character points was that he was looking for his long-lost sister. Well it's finally come to a head...



So in the recent SU arc the Chaotix have been looking for Mighty and Ray, who have been following a lead on Mighty's sister. After having just missed the duo in Mighty's homeland of Mercia, the Chaotix head to Sandblast City. Unfortunatly they run into the worst team of Freedom Fighters, Jack Rabbit and his Crew. Once captured they finally end the quest, find that Mighty has joined the Sand Blast Crew under the guise of Flex.

Mighty later reveals that the only reason he joined was because his sister is a member of the Dark Legion Chapter.





So it is revealed that Mighty's sister is Matilda, a character who was introduced around the same time as the Baron. I had a feeling that they were related.




My... my heart...


Oh lord... the feels...


Man this is a downer. All his work seems for not. While he still has the surrogate family of Ray and the Chaotix, he has lost the last member of his biological family. He failed to rescue his parents, made a deal with Mammoth Mogul that lead him to exile, and now his sister doesn't even know him, nor does she seem to care. Damn you Ian Flynn for making me feel things in my Sonic Comics!

I didn't notice this the first time I read this issue, but there's a silhouette in the page where Mighty is first sitting down with the Baron. (who I love as a character, btw....a good man needing to serve evil just to protect himself and his) I can make out rabbit ears, a hat and what looks like long hair. It's only there for that one panel, but it's there.

Could my theory be true that Bunnie's disappearance after Antoine nearly got killed was actually her going to her uncle to get her robotic limbs back so she could be powerful again?! OMG THE STORY IN THIS IS AWESOME!!

I just noticed the silhoute that you mentioned. I agree that it's Bunnie. The look it the eyes are one of concern, as she recognizes Mighty. I also subscirbed to the theory that Bunnie went to her uncle to restore her cybernetic self.

I keep forgetting. Why does a guy who seems as decent as Bunnie's uncle work for Eggman?

When the big de-roboticization happened, those who had been roboticized were treated like slaves or cast out by the sandblasters, who only cared about themselves and are more a gang of thugs than proper freedom fighters. Left without a lot of choice, they turned to Eggman, they run a refinery and protect it, and in return they got cybernetics to patch up old wounds, and strength to defend themselves... and Eggman's fuel.

The Baron's Dark Legion chapter aren't fans of most of the Freedom Fighters or their allies for letting the Sand Blasters run wild (not that, in turn, they likely knew much about the situation or could do a lot, the area's pretty remote and contact was probably just the occasional messenger, and when the Sand Blasters chapter was formed it was purely against robot forces so they got support like everyone else fighting Eggman), but do recognize there's a difference.

Whoa, I didn't even notice that silhouette! Can't imagine it being anyone else but Bunny, all things considered.

I like your theory about her getting new cybernetic parts, but I'm not sure if I like the message it could send overall; it would kind of feel like the only way Bunny can be a good Freedom Fighter is if she has robotic parts....

Well despite me knowing bugger all about these characters, that managed to be both rather beautifully heartbreaking and mature.

This is the reason I've stuck with this comic since it first came out. With the exception of a few instances (ie. editorial nonsense like what's going on now with the Echidnas), the series has fantastic characterization, character and plot growth and a lot of maturity, and still manages to be fun.

But this and Antoine's near-death sequence were some of the first times it's driven me to tears.

And even the echinda thing... they're just *gone* but can come back. Which, knowing Ian, he will try and do if possible down the road.

I like how in this region, the 'Eggman' side is the more reasonable one.

The third piece of major story development my poor Mighty's gotten in 15 years, and he's getting his heart crushed like this. To have that tiny shred of hope after all that time, and this to be the result...

Between this and losing Julie-Su to the Penders'pocalpse/Knuckles losing his entire race again, I don't know how much more Chaotix abuse I can take.

I need something good to happen to them that doesn't include Rouge going after Knuckles because NO. Maybe some Espio/Nicole development.
