To be honest, I don't think any of the covers are appealing - If I saw them on the shelf, they wouldn't prompt me to pick the books up. But that Superior Spidey #9 solicitation? Sounds too good to be true, and a bit too soon to go back to Peter as Spidey, regardless of what I'd prefer.

I'm dropping the title when if Peter comes back.

If we're talking about pissing off the fans, I wouldn't be surprised if it's something like Ock driving Pete out of his brain for good.

To BND Spidey, yes.

That and I said I would drop ASM until the marriage was restored. I'm making an exception because I like Doc Ock but once he's gone I'm dropping the title.

Well technically Peter came back in the first issue of Superior, because Dan Slott is a hyperactive plotter who couldn't wait to reveal Peter was still around the very next issue after his big death.

Probably for the best given all the death threats he was getting.

I don't think Slott wrote Peter back in because of the death threats, and I don't think the death threats stopped because he wrote Peter back in. Like, it wasn't some sort of sustained campaign of harassment in order to achieve a goal, it was a bunch of hyperbolic idiots shooting their mouths off on twitter.

You know, this whole "death threats" thing... are there any actual links to anything resembling proof? I'm not saying that no one said anything ever to that effect, but remember, this is a community that had to move because someone told a creator to DIAF once.

I saw plenty of people on Facebook's pages for Comic Book Resources and the like declaring that Slott should die or get killed for what he was doing. I'm not rooting through weeks of posts to get them, but they were there. Besides, why do you need proof? It's not like anyone here has said such things, and as much as I dislike the writing, there's no reason for Slott or anyone reporting on the threats to make things up.

I'm really hoping that the Green Goblin we'll be seeing is Harry Osborn, out to put Peter back in control. That'd be a really neat direction to go with the dynamic since at this point Norman has almost become to much of a general Marvel U villain to go back to just menacing Spider-Man.
I really like those covers, but I think I get what you mean about them not really being eye catching on the shelf. I'd love to hang them on my wall though.
I can't be the only one who's always a little disappointed that guys like Martin and Rivera are doing covers but not interiors at this point. They're two creators whose art alone would be enough for me to buy an issue, but not if it's just the cover.

Kinda like how Joker took on the new Persona when Batman "died"?

Yeah, something in sort of that vein, though I would think Harry would be genuinely altruistic, only putting on the mask again to save his best friend. Sort of play around a bit with the usual dynamic.

Maybe but keep in mind that right before Ock took over Spidey Norman had apparently awoken from his coma and escaped from the hospital.

I'd actually forgotten that. I love Norman as the Green Goblin, but Marvel's spent the last few years turning him into more of a Lex Luthor type character, and it'd be weird to have him go back. Also I'd really like to see a villain who's going after Ock specifically, rather than just Spider-Man.

I think we can only hope that's a bait and switch, frankly; As much as some parts of it sucked, taking Norman back down to just being a Spider-Man villain just wouldn't work for me any more.

Yeah, you're right, but it still kind of rubs me the wrong way a little bit. I'm fine with Marvel joking at their own expense, but making fun of fans for getting upset at a story that was clearly intended to get them at the very least fired up, just annoys me.
I think I just tend to assume the worst with everything related Superior Spider-Man though, so that's almost certainly coloring my interpretation of the solicit text.

What bugs me about this whole "Superior" Spider-Man is not so much the idea(in a finite story arc it would work splendidly). What bugs me is the idea that "character development" in comic books seems to automatically translate into "grim-dark". For further examples, see the entire DC New 52, where the only victories that the heroes can seem to pull off anymore are phyrric ones.

My prediction: by August, Ock will make a huge mistake. With that ego, it's already long-overdue. He'll end up being reviled by NYC and a fugitive from the law. In desperation, he'll try to appeal to MJ, who will reject him, realizing that the Peter Parker she knew and loved is long-gone. In frustration, Ock will abandon his veneer of heroism and embrace evil. Just to add a level of pretension, he'll quote RIchard III: "Since I cannot prove a lover to entertain these fair well-spoken days, I am determined to prove the villain." He'll kidnap MJ, giving her a "marry me or die" ultimatum, while launching some elaborate Blofeld-worthy scheme for power and holding the Avengers at bay. Meanwhile, Peter Parker re-emerges, finally breaking out of the mental cage Ock kept him trapped in and, with a little help from Dr. Strange, takes Ock down for good. But the damage has been done. The reputations of both Spider-Man and Peter Parker are in tatters, most of NY's heroes don't want to be seen with him, and even after learning what Ock had done to Peter, MJ can't stand to be around him, thanks to what Ock put her through. This will be the new post-Superior status-quo; Peter Parker, back at square one, slowly rebuilding his life, while Spider-Man tries to rebuild his reputation.

Yes, they're OBVIOUSLY not trying to bait everyone who thoroughly despises the feeble excuses they've had for stories over the past few years. I'M the unreasonable one here. I mean, hey, it's not as if this complete joke of a title isn't written by the same guy who once told a fan to "Go F*ck [Themselves]" online for disliking his story, or who harassed a woman on her personal livejournal merely for mentioning his name...

Huh. Well, I suppose I'd be annoyed if I got accused of writing a character in a racist manner, but telling them fuck themselves is a little strong.
What about the blog thing? Who did he harass for mentioning him?

Which is... Weird. Because I don't remember Slott writing the stories that featured Norah. For what it's worth, it was a really, really racist thing that was used in one particular story with her, which unfortunately seems to have tarnished her as a character for a lot of people because she's other wise awesome. Still doesn't explain Slott's attitude, since I'm sure Norah's appearances were largely written by Joe Kelly.

Basically, Slott got really pissed when a reader decided to make things personal and insult the storyteller instead of the story, even outright lying about Slott.

What I have to admit I'm the most annoyed is the second cover depicting the Secret Avenger's heads. Where the heck is Bobbi? I wouldn't be this annoyed if it wasn't for he fact that I haven't seen any depiction of her in any previews so far and this is going to be her only Marvel Now book, I'm starting to get worried for her.
Also, Bucky's not going to be a member of the team, so why's he there? God, I like Bucky, but its getting on my nerves that my second favourite Avenger's not getting any press outside of interviews for a book while a supporting character to the group is.
