Don't worry, this is a superhero comic book so of course they fight later on.

Although you have to cut Brian some slack, he did put up with a lot of stuff before he went berserk; I don't know I'd react if an alien blew up my bathroom. Now that I think about it, Excalibur seems like Marvel's answer to Giffen/DeMatteis' JLI, a humorous look at the things that could go wrong if you were a superhero.

Cap has his issues as a housemate too, like the time he managed to completely destroy Kitty's software collection (including nearly ALL the programs she'd written with Doug) because he hadn't realised that the box he'd lifted with his superstrength was heavy enough to crush her box of disks completely and instantly.

And Alan Davis always drawshis sexy with the sexy turned up to 11!

...Nope. Don't see it.

(If anything, I find Davis' "problem" to be just the opposite. I'm amazed at how little his style has changed over the decades; there's been very little evolution to his style. I'm not bothered by it, because he's settled on a great style, but he's definitely settled.)

I love the little details he remember to put in the clothes- once I'm finished drooling over the lithe splendour of Kurt, I can see exactly how the trousers are elasticated round the ankles, how Meggan's bikini actually holds together, all those little details that prove he put the thought and the time into what he was drawing.

"Oozing Teutonic Charm" is one of the best lines I've read in a while, especially with the "Vas?!?" in response.

And was Brian still under his curse during this? If I recall correctly wasn't it basically retconned that he'd been cursed with...well, basically buffoonery that was then exacerbated by a drinking problem?

Don't think so, the abive scne happened during the second Alan Davis run (since the Technet are in the lighthouse) and just before the launch of the Anti-Phoenix story.

I'd have to look in my copies, but I think this is shortly before the team went different directions and Brian went to Otherworld, where he found out about the curse.

He met Roma then, and learned about assorted manipulations by Merlyn, but I don't think he actually found out about the curse until about 20 issues later, after the Necrom stuff was over. He was almost killed while trying to help the Warpies, Roma showed up and healed and de-cursed him and gave him a new suit.

*Edit*...or maybe the de-cursing happened on Otherworld earlier? I too would have to look in your copies!

Yes, he was, but the jinx didn't actually mess with his personality IIRC; it just made him screw up whenever he tried to operate solo. The fact that this plus other stresses put his temper on a hair-trigger was, well, just Brian being Brian.

In fairness, when he attacked Kurt, he'd just smashed headfirst into a pile of machinery, which had him half-stunned and probably messed with his judgment a little.

Also in fairness, if this was the regular X-Men, teammates beating the crap out of each other would be Tuesday. Brian's punchiness stood out here largely because Excalibur usually talked through their interpersonal problems like normal people.

Yeah, Brian breaks Kurt's leg, Meggan tearfully breaks up the fight and, before he can apologize, Brian is whisked away by the Captain Britain Corps to Otherworld for a trial for attacking his teammate.
The next issue has this great mulit-page fight scene of Brian cutting loose and fighting a horde of unusual and visually interesting Captains. I believe that this run was my favorite run of any non-miniseries comic ever.
When Alan is at the top of the game, when he loves and knows the characters, there's no better writer-artist in my opinion.

Everyone rightfully gives kudos to Davis's artwork, but he's incredibly underrated as a writer, I've always thought.

CLANDESTINE is probably my favorite work of his. It's the closest you'll get to creator-owned work by Davis, even though the property's legally owned by Marvel. Lots of heart and character, and surprising ahead of its time in some ways.

JLA: THE NAIL, an Elseworlds mini-series really shows off his gift for tight plotting. It's really impressive how the various plot elements all come together in the end.

And his KILLRAVEN mini-series is also top stuff. While it starts off your typical post-apocalyptic sci-fi, it soon goes in some interesting, less predictable directions.

I always wondered why Meggan wasn't considered one of the powerhouses in the MU. Her power versatility is insane and her personality always intrigued me.

The big fat limitation that her powers fade as she's away from the British Isles or somewhere like Otherworld, with ambient esoteric energies to fuel her power.

To put it another way: Imagine Superman lived in a world where Metropolis was the only place with yellow sunlight. Everywhere else is red. That's Meggan.

She's managed well during their trips overseas, so I think that's been proved false. It was actually Brian who had the problem, for a while, and had to wear the Captain Britain suit to keep his powers when not in Britain.

At the same tune Brian's issue was brought up (during the Excalibur issues of Inferno), Meggan was shown as having a loss of fine control (she'd shapeshift to match anyone who came near her, unconsciously). She had the same power drain issues Brian did, without the mismatched CB suit making things worse.

I kinda remember it differently, with Meggan flying around when they visited NY while Brian was melancholy that he couldn't. She was also fine when they visited Wakanda.

freezer is right as I recall it. Whilst Brian's powers just faded (An annoying retcon given they hadn't done that when he was an exchange student at Empire State University and shared digs with Peter Parker) Meggan could still fly, but lost control of her shapeshifting powers to a certain extent.

Wait but weren't her powers working 100% during her recent stay in Limbo/Hel? From what I gather, the British Isles are no where near hell.

Oh I dunno, Milton Keynes sometimes comes close.

Meggan is, at times and deoending on who is writing her, a creature of magic of some sort. Think of it like mains voltage, it's quite possible she can access compatible magic in Hel or Limbo, but not in the USA. :)

Warren Ellis wrote the memorable description of her power levels when she attacks a ramapging Collosus in conjunction with Brian

"Being hit by either of them is like having a chest freezer dropped on your brain. To be hit by both at the same time is like being punched in the face by God".
