Putting Ocean Master into a human prison after he yields? Sure it’s fair because the US would definitely want to imprison someone responsible for the attacks, but at the same time it seems that by making this decision Aquaman would only cause a schism among the people of Atlantis who would see the act as betraying the traditions of their culture

Aquaman decides leave and be the king of Atlantis as there a civil war going on for the Thron and he needs to set things right after Vulko betrayal.

I really love how Johns has written Ocean Master in the New 52--a good mix of villainous motivation but with genuinely sympathetic emotions and reasoning.

It's also sad because it looks like Aquaman and Mera are going to be apart for a while. :( But hey, maybe this means that Mera will replace Arthur in the Justice League?

that could be why she is show in the original justice league teaser line up

At one point, one of the Atlanteans calls her a "fugitive." If I remember Brightest Day right, Johns played around with the water dimension that Mera came from and revamped it into Atlantis' prison colony.

hmmm maybe the "trinity war" is a war between the two justice leagues and the legion of doom

so the government is making a new league AND the justice league wants to expand? or are they one and the same?

The Justice League has gotten assistance from ARGUS and, therefore, the US government, but they've always been independent, which has apparently annoyed the gov the whole time. The Justice League of America would answer solely to the US government.

Because Catwoman has SUCH a good track record for obedience...

And weren't ARGUS the ones trying to arrest that Green Lantern chap?

Sorry, I just can't see anyone looking at that line up and thinking "Yes, they'll work fine as the public face of heroism"

They do mention both of these things in JLA #1. Catwoman isn't going to be on the team publicly (and Trevor uses some secret he knows about her past to get her interested in joining), and as for Simon Baz, he has a federal agent who vouches for his innocence, and while he was arrested for pulling a terrorist plot, he was never convicted, nor has he been seen publicly in that context as Green Lantern.

I was about to ask who the young woman at the end was, then remembered that's what Amanda Waller looks like now... and a little part of my soul died again.

...is the guy with the red mask the Atom? Are we finally going to get Ryan Choi back?

I've been waiting for this since they announced the line-up during Flashpoint. If Scarecrow joins the team before the Atom, I'm gonna be pissed.

Scarecrow is being recruited for a different team. It doesn't look it, but there are three teams recruiting here.

Yeah, the first time I glanced at that last panel I went, "Well, that's a weird lineup for a Justice League chapter."

Which isn't bad, but must suck for fans of Ryan Choi.

You mean I actually predicted something correctly for once?

"The whole they will regret that' didn't make me think he's going for Revenge, so much as revenge and trying to get Arthur's throne back. After all, what better revenge than putting his ward on the Throne?"

Yay!

Is that Vulko in the ponytail? I can't help but see his lines as a metaphor for DC's creative leadership. "I had to stomp on everything and abort every story and character that was going pre-reboot--because I love DC so much!"

I just shouldn't read scans of Geoff Johns stuff, should I?

I never thought of it that way. Given how transparently Superboy-Prime became a strawman one can't really Johns these days without thinking part of everything is meta-comic subtext...and not in a good way.

I find it really silly that both the JLA and the Legion of Doom are reviewing candidates based on headshots.

Power stats? Documents about their history? Videos of them in action? Naaaah, just make sure they send in a photo showing off their best facial features.

Don't like the way Aquaman is treating Ocean Master here (yeah I never though I'd say that). Want me to believe the rest of the JL would "arrest" Orm, yeah maybe. But Ocean Master WAS trying to protect his people (in a way), the other side (the US) is not completely innocent and yet it's Arthur of all people who's arresting him in the name (presumably) of another country?

Does Arthur see himself as Atlantean, or is he back to being a half human, half Atlantean hybrid?

In regards to what to do with Orm, Arthur was in a diplomatic hard spot. If he took Orm back to Atlantis and imprisoned him there, the surface world would just see it as 'shielding' him and avoiding surface prosecution.

At least by doing this, he's proving that Atlantis will respect the surface world and their laws, and will not give special treatment to his brother. People back home will be unhappy, sure, but that's somewhat easier to handle than a whole league of pissed off and paranoid nations.

...I get it! This is what causes the reboot version of the Injustice League to be formed! The US government forms a Legion of Doom-ish organisation of supervillains as a means of creating falseflag operations and diverting the Justice League away from anything that they government considers to be too important for the League to get involved in.

Presumably though they'll end up wandering off on their own though, considering controlling groups of supervillains is like herding cats even at the best of times.
