Hawkeye #8 preview: Never too late for a Valentine's Day special

Well, by getting caught in the middle of a very strange love pentagon between the woman Bendis put him with, the woman Fraction's put him with, the woman Whedon sort of-but not quite hinted he was with, and the woman he used to be with and still has strong feelings for of course!

My thoughts on the preview:
Firstly, I'm not sure what's going on with Clint and Jess right now, I'm not sure if they ever actually got together or if they broke up, but all I know is Clint and her had...something, and he slept with Cherry. If he's actually together with Jess and was during that issue, then does that mean Clint cheated? In which case, Bad Clint! If not, and he didn't cheat, then I withdraw my 'Bad Clint' comment.
Secondly, yay to Bobbi being here. Considering she's not in Hickman's Avengers book and is yet to appear in Secret Avengers, or even have any preview art or team shots so far, I'm very happy to see my second favourite Avenger somewhere, and where better then the solo book for my favourite Avenger? Now I'm hoping for a big fight between Hawkeye and his former girlfriends vs the Tracksuit Mafia goons he's been feuding with. That will be awesome.
Thirdly, and lastly, I can't help but wonder how Kate fits into all this, and wherever she does, I hope she gets to hang out with the aforementioned exes.

Now, thoughts and such?

So is Natasha 'the woman Whedon sort of-but not quite hinted he was with'? Because that does have it's basis in the really, really old books.

Yeah. I know Natasha was with him before in the older days, which is why she's referred to as one of the exes. But IIRC, it wasn't exactly a long lasting affair and is a fairly minor aspect of both character's careers.

Indeed. Hawkeye originally wanted to be a good guy and Black Widow kind of tricked him into being a bad guy. Then she joined the Avengers through him.

Isn't Natasha still with Bucky? Or have they decided to end that (NOOOO!) with Brubaker leaving?

Yep. Brubaker had her memory erased, then put some of it back, but conveniently not her memories of Bucky.

Of course, if she were now to get back with Clint, that would make him a huge douchebag, because he knows what happened, and knows that the only reason Nat isn't with Bucky is because he mind was tampered with.

Still, that didn't stop Clint in the past, did it?

I suspect that Kate will, as usual, be alternately rolling her eyes and laughing at Clint... and then helping him out of his latest predicament.

Because that's what she does, and it's why we (or at least I) love her.

Clint and Jess were very much together in Bendis' Avengers stuff and unless it showed up somewhere that I haven't seen, they never broke up. That's why I was pretty annoyed with Clint hooking up with Cherry, cause it makes him look like a major cheating douchebag. I actually wondered if Fraction even knew about/paid attention to the Clint/Jess thing, but I guess we're getting an explanation with this issue.

It showed up in Avengers Assemble too. I asked Kelly Sue Deconnick about it (on tumblr) and she said the issue would be addressed in a forthcoming Hawkeye issue.

Does this remind anyone of that special Spider-Man issue? The one that had Carlie Cooper together with Peter's great loves before they were even dating? Marvel seems to like doing these things. If they did one with Tony I wonder how many people they would have to fit on the cover.

They wouldn't be able to. If Tony had a cover like this made, they'd have to have everyone's face reduced to the size of a milometer to fit it on.

While I might be a bit bias here, I always thought that Bobbi was his true love. After all, he and the Thunderbolts went to Hell and back in an attempt to rescue her and brought back Hellcat instead.

Nothing wrong with a bit of bias, not in this case. Clint and Bobbi are one o my few OTPs, something very few couples in comics have become for me, and its precisely because they just work really well together.

Your not he only one. I'm not personally, because of the aforementioned age difference and because I proffer them both with other characters, but I've seen many who do ship them.

I just checked out the rest of the preview. How gorgeous is this book's style, or what? Seriously, I love it. And it's only that pesky unemployed thing that's stopping me from running out (well, digitally speaking) and buying every issue all in one go.
