At least thirty or forty for a good-size high school team - roster size limits might vary by state. College teams could get over fifty. Professional teams drop back down to a limit of 53 on the active roster, but that's still 26.5 players.

Honestly, now that I've done the math, I'm envisioning more of a "how many college students fit in a VW Bug scenario" than anything salacious.
