These guys were featured in the latest Ultimates book, although they had been mentioned previously in the United We Stand arc.

We find them trying to hunt down Osama Bin Laden for Nick Fury and SHIELD.

You've got Tigra and Wonder Man:

Vision:

And Quake (good to see here finally make an appearance in this universe; I loved Secret Warriors):

There's something kinda hilarious about a roided out Wonder Man screaming "Where is Osama Bin Laden!" although I assume a roided out Wonder Man screaming anything would be pretty funny.

And finally Black Knight

If you're wondering what happened to them they were placed in stasis by Nick Fury (when he still ran SHIELD) nine years ago. They were supposed to be a more covert opt version of the Ultimates, but they were rushed into production and deemed unstable, so they got put back to sleep until "they were needed someday." In the present they were awaken by California who appear to still be trying to separate from the US.

It'll be interesting to see how they react to being placed in suspended animation for so long, and to waking up in a world nine years later. ipods have come along way, although they don't make twinkies any more.

Personally I would have gone with the Great Lake Avengers.

Black Knight looks like a Transformer. And they already introduced an Ulitmate Vision

To be fair, the brief lull in the Ultimate Universe seems to have been solved, now. At least in my eyes. Once they got over letting Loeb do whatever he liked, at least. Given the Ultimate Universe has lasted this long, and the 616 books - thanks to Millar and Bendis and the like - have, for the most part, become what the Ultimate books were anyway, I don't see the problem with the Ultimate books as they are now.

I can understand Loeb feeling the way he did after what happened in his personal life but I really don't know why Marvel would let him basically take one giant shit on the Ultimate Marvel Universe, especially since he wasn't even one of the big writers for the line like Bendis or Millar.

The whole thing was just ugly and cruel even by the standards of the Big Two.

I don't think it really had anything to do with his personal life--at least, there wasn't anything in Ultimatum that says that. I think they thought of the idea that with the Ultimate Universe, you could basically do shit that you could not get away with on their "normal" characters and they went too far and/or too stupid with it.

Worse, he looks like Movieverse Starscream, the ONE movie design I can honestly say was stupid and wrong. Well, that and one-legged Arcee and her 'sisters'.

Ultimate Black Knight II: the answer to " What if DARPA built a Darkhawk? "

(The best Ultimization this issue, though, had to be the name reuse for the Attorney General. It's almost Tangential, the way they do things like that.)

Ultimate Wonder Man reminds me kind of Christian Bale Batman. "WHERE IS HE?! WHERE'S BIN LADEN?! RAAAAAAAAAGGGHH!!!" (Also that RAAAAAAGGGH, at the end... hilarious.)

Now I wonder how long it took DC to find Osama Bin Laden, considering they had Batman, who I'm sure would be willing to take a break from defending Gotham to drag Bin Laden back. If not him, Superman probably would.

Oof, these pages look like they embody all of the things I like least about Ultimate Marvel. Needlessly brutal "superheroes" fighting generic terrorists in a vaguely topical setting, all of them sporting dull as dishwater updated designs. Wonderman and Black Knight have got to be the worst here, Wonderman just looks goofy and nothing about him beyond the insignia on the costume reminds me of the original character, and Black Knight is now just another boring dude in an overdesigned suit of power armor.

Maybe these are better in context, and I know that Ultimate Marvel's been doing some interesting things lately, but I mean, pages like these are exactly why I never really got into Ultimate Comics.

They're exactly why I regret getting into Ultimate comics.
Ultimates 1 "Hey Interesting."
Ultimates 2 "Ok, I guess, bu-"
Ultimates 3 "I am both stupider and angrier for having read this. It has hurt my very sense of self."

I thought Ult2 was so over the top it was hilarious, and actually had a nice emotional closure at the end, bringing everyone together to save the world. But I like how you express Ult3 so perfectly.

I was following on with Ultimates 2 right up until hawkeye's family got fridged. Wasn't necessary, didn't lead to anything halfway decent, actively shows off how thoroughly Hank was fondling the idiot ball. Plus Cap's character had been pretty screwed up by the whole "FRANCE?!" debacle, and his reaction to the Liberators did NOT help. The Thor storyline was good though, credit where it's due.

Curse you for reminding me of the fridging of Hawkeye's family, and the ludicrous breakout-by-fingernail. I guess I had blacked that part out of my memory.

Well maybe I phrased that wrong; The costume, while similar to the classic look, very much a generic "modern" look, and without the W on the chest he could just be any random supermook. And physically, he looks far more monster-y and roided up, not at all like the movie star-ish Wonderman of the 616 U.

I dunno, if you took the W off the classic Wonder Man I don't think I'd be able to recognize him either.

Yeah it's easier to recognize him when he's got his whole outfit with the sunglasses and the jacket, by itself his basic costume jumpsuit thing is a very generic look. Personally I always think of his proper costume as having the jacket and so on because it very much works with his personality imo.

-Ultimatum should never be spoken of in public. If you go to a dark room and say "Ultimatum" three times in front of a mirror Jeph Loeb appears and just laughs at you. -

Weird how that reminds me of a joke me and a friend made about Ultimatum, One More Day, and a few other 'stories', that if you go to San Diego Comic Con and announce loudly that you thought they were the best comic ever, and that all comics should be like them, you get tackled to the ground and big people stamp on you.

Give it another four years. There's a few writers I know didn't like it, by that point they should have the authority to undo it.

"and I know that Ultimate Marvel's been doing some interesting things lately,"

Basically it's been Miles Morales and Hickman's Evil Reed arc. That's about it, from what I can tell. Ultimates went WAY downhill once Humphrees got on the title.

As far as I was aware/concerned, it died when Peter Parker died.

Hmm honestly I thought Ben Grimm would become Ultimate Wonder Man. Seems like this version had a bit of the Gamma treatment.

I've wondered about Ultimate Ben Grimm myself, he underwent a whole metamorphosis and "hatched" from his rocky hide with sweet new powers and a human appearance, declared his love for Sue, who reciprocated, and then.... Nothing. Some really great plot threads just left hanging.

It's one of the more annoying things about Ultimate Marvel only having a few titles out. Would it kill them to give us a mini? I mean, Ultimate Wolverine is getting one, so something new with the FF would be great.

You'd think that Ben and Sue would especially play a bigger role nowadays since this whole situation came from Reed becoming the ultimate world conqueror/Nice Guy.
