For those who enjoyed the "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" as a sort of extension of the old 1966 TV show (and it borrowed quite a lot from it) a surprise announcement from DC.

DC Comics will expand its digital-first comics line this summer with the debut of Batman ’66, a series based on the classic television series.
The announcement came last night in Hollywood, where Warner Bros. Consumer Products launched its Batman Classic Television Series licensing program during an event co-hosted by Junk Food Clothing and Meltdown Comics.
“The juxtaposition of offering a retro Batman ’66 comic as a current and modern digital first title is fun,” DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson said in a statement. “DC Entertainment is the most prolific producer of digital first comics and, as we work to create new and compelling content, this is a great way to also preserve the legacy of our characters. It’s exciting to roll out the new Batman ’66 comic as part of this bigger initiative with our Warner Bros Consumer Product partners.”
Inspired by the television series, which aired from 1966 to 1968 on ABC, Batman ’66 is written by Jeff Parker and illustrated by Jonathan Case
“DC licensed the rights to all the actors from the 60s TV show (!), and we’re set to start reeling and rocking this summer,” Case writes on his website. “Really, if they let me develop with any superhero project, working with whoever I wanted, I honestly couldn’t have come up with a better fit: lighthearted, kid-appropriate, retro, and written by one of my favorite comics writers. The script Jeff’s writing for this series is gold. You can feel his love [for] the material, the era, the Julie Newmar.”
A few sample images from the site, visit the site to see more, including larger pictures of the Joker, the Riddler, the Penguin and another Catwoman image.

Hopefully the sotires will tend towards two parters, so we can get a suitably death-trappy type cliffhanger at the end of the first part! :)

Nope, not contradictory at all.

Date: 2013-03-23 12:49 am (UTC)The complaints about the sudden return of Barry, Barbara (as Batgirl) and Hal (Who were, if I may descend to ubergeek mode for a moment, are Silver Age, not Golden Age characters) were that they were a rather crass reset, derailing other characters (Wally, Cassie and Kyle) who had grown and developed into the role over a long period of time (and in the case of Barbara undoing a strong unique character she had been for over two decades). Bringing Barry Allen back 25 years after he had been killed off, claiming that he was the iconic version, remains just bizarre to me.
The 1966 Batman series is a finite time capsule, it was of it's time, it's own little bubble of continuity (such as it was) and had no long lasting impact on the comics etc... So it can be appreciated on it's own merits.

Date: 2013-03-23 02:29 am (UTC)But this comic is interesting. I might check this out. Personally, I say we read this instead of the new 52, just to help get across to DC that most of their reboot reeks worse than the Stinking Corpse Lilly when it's trying to pollinate.

Kidding. I love this and may get the inevitable trade.
