In his typical manner, Morrison sweeps in and shows the other writers just how it's done. All the rest of the 'Requiem' stuff going on in the other Bat-books just seems overwrought and clumsy in comparison.
Bruce, when Alfred comes back, you'd better fucking apologise. I realize that you're hurting really bad right now, but you have no right to blame him.
After all, he 'allowed' the young man he raised forge himself into an obsessive vigilante. He 'allowed' that man adopt several children and have them join him fighting crime. He 'allowed' your biological son to continue doing that while you were dead.
Don't you fucking talk about what Alfred 'allows' the Batfamily to do, Bruce. Because if he didn't, all of you would be dead.
Actually, I think Bruce has every right to blame him. I've been saying that ever since Damian died, and I was wondering when it would be addressed.
Damian might have saved them, but we all know that had Damian not left, they would have found a way. The point is that if Alfred had not facilitated Damian's leaving--he did more than "let" him, he encouraged him and advised him how--Damian would not be dead.
It may be a difficult thing, and Alfred may have meant no harm, but it's still so.
I actually think what Bruce has done is actually a rational idea. He hasn't fired Alfred, only sent him on a vacation. So while Alfred is gone, it gives Bruce time to clear his head and not say or do anything on a spur of moment caused by grief.
Welp, as we all suspected, even in a universe full of superheroes Cameron isn't above thinking of the most logical path to take and then going in completely the opposite direction.
As everyone else is saying, Bruce has a point. Yes, Damian likely would've gotten out anyway, given we know he can run rings around Alfred if need be, but Alfred let him go, in this instance. Granted, it isn't entirely blaming the right person - that would be the ex-girlfriend with the giant marauding clone of your son, Bruce - but Alfred did let him go.
Called it when it comes to Beryl, although I'd much rather have seen her get a new design as the Knight. Personally, I'm rooting more for Talia to get comeuppance for Cyril more than anything else.
Also, Bruce *is* kind of being a dick there, given he knows full-well that Damian has run rings around Alfred before - right in his introductory story, even, but.. Yeah. Alfred kind-of needs a telling off at the very least here. But neither he nor Bruce are in the right.
I really wonder what's left for Talia now. She;s really crossed the moral event horizon. It seems like DC just through away her character (killing her own son? Really?). Morrison doesn't come off particularly well since he openly said he would be adding layers to Talia's character because of the complaints and instead just made her worse. I mean this is truly Ra's level of evil stuff here.
It figures. Alfred spent years trying to discourage Bruce and others from becoming vigilantes to no avail. The one time he actually encourages someone to go out and save the day, the kid gets riddled with arrows and bullets and impaled on a sword. The poor man just can't win.
I still think it sucks that Damian died. But it's amazing how much he changed over the years. At the beginning of Morrison's run he was an annoying murderous little brat that everyone disliked in-universe and out. Near the run's end, Damian became a likable hero in his own right, and proved it with his final actions. People in-universe and out actually miss him.
I like the Prime Minister's attitude. Has Bruce started talking of this yet? "Hey, you know what, this robin was annoying but kinda cool. Are the pits all booked? Let's just ask Supes to slap reality again"
What he's saying by "take a vacation" is not "It's all your fault, you're fired!" but "I'm hurting right now, and I don't want to say something I might regret later."
It's basically of the equivalent of "I can't talk about this right now."
If Bruce was really, really serious that Damian was under no circumstances to be in this battle, then Damian wouldn't be in the cave under the watch of a man who Damian had actually assaulted in the past when he tried to keep him from leaving the cave. He would have been in the fortress of solitude with Superman watching over him. But then, shared universes and all that.
Much preferred Tomasi's fallout issue to this, honestly.
Yeah, Beryl could really use a better design for her Knight costume, right now she looks a bit too much like a female version of the old Knight and not enough like his successor.
And I was really hoping this issue would finally have Bruce starting to take the fight to Leviathan, but I guess we'll have to wait another month to begin to see that, which is annoying to me because so much of this series so far has just involved things going from bad to worse and I really want to see a turnaround.

Of course, the death of Damian is Morrison's own story; most of the other writers were just forced to tie-in to something unrelated to the stuff they were already working on. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the writers were told at the last minute "Oh, you need to add something in about Damian being dead."
