Well, it's the name of the Angel of Destruction, I assume that usually includes a deathcount.

I haven't ever seen it uesd to refer to Death in the sense of a psychopomp, but it means something like Destroyer and was apparently sometimes used to refer to the realm of the dead, so it doesn't seem completely out of nowhere, especially for a hostile, malignant Death as this seems to be.
