Gave this a shot again because of The Question being in it, but I was surprised by how much I liked it.

The philosophy quoting talking dog is probably my new favorite character in comics. :D

I don't think so. The dog refers to the Stranger's previous Master, whom he betrayed, yet still turns to, as he did earlier in the issue, who would have been God. The dog is decidedly the reverse of God.

Back? This isn't the same guy. The New 52 Question is a supernatural immortal who has wandered the Earth for centuries, and his face is not a mask, his features were erased by wizards.

From what I've seen this Question has got nothing to do with Vic Sage or his personality, so I don't quite get why the interest in seeing 'him' back.

Other than pure dislike of other characters, I see no reason to like this character in favor of Renee based on previous continuity.

Nu52 continuity had Stranger and Question "created" at the same time. Which was a long ass time ago, since the Stranger is Judas.

No. Think the other direction. He's not Vic Sage, The Question. He's THE QUESTION. The Question is considered the worst offender of the Trinity of Sin. Worse than Judas or Pandora. So what question could have been asked that was far worse than anything either of those could have done? That's not only the mystery of the new Question, it's the question we're all supposed to have on our tongues, along with "who IS The Question?"

They were created at the same time, but also plucked from different time periods to face their punishment. So Question COULD feasibly be from a different time period. After all, Pandora's sin was hundreds or even thousands of years before Jesus and Judas walked the Earth.

It's odd, when I read the dialogue, I feel like the Stranger's and Question's roles were reversed at some point when the DCnu was being made.

I really do feel like this version of the Phantom Stranger has kind of missed both the "Phantom" and "Stranger" bits. Making him a classical leading man with a corny motivation seems contrary to what the character's been about for so long.

This feels like another pet project from Didio, just like OMAC was back at the start of the relaunch, but unlike that series, Phantom Stranger one doesn't even look to be all that good.

Giving the Stranger a de facto secret identity and a family to retire to occasionally... just seems wrong. As does giving him a definite identity as Judas Iscariot.

Yeah, I like to think this dude is just a cosplayer who's really into cosplaying P.S., and the real one is actually out still doing his cryptic-but-uplifting-advice-and-guidance thing, and still giving out a multiple-choice past to whoever asks. Also palling around with Cassandra Craft and Deadman.

Hmm, although the story is interesting, I can't help but feel that it would have been better with different characters.

Though that might just be me being annoyed at the Stranger being lessened via them turning him into a more conventional character, made the Question an immortal magic user, and I don't even know what's going on with Dr Thirteen.

Prefer them in their Matt Wagner, Dennis O'Neil and Brian Azzarello versions respectively. So sue me.

The Question ONLY speaking in questions could get a little tiring, it makes him sound like a therapist more than anything else.

Still it's not badly handled here.

I can't say as I'm that thrilled with much of this, really. It looks like they've taken everything out of the Phantom Stranger that made him a character and replaced him with someone else by that name. The whole ties to the Question? Well, I dunno. Seems like they've just grabbed some random characters and slapped them together thematically by changing both of them and not for the better.

I'm assuming that if the Stranger is Judas, that makes that the Spear of Destiny?
Honestly the only thing I really like about this is the appearance of the Challengers.
