Superman hears about Damian's death and go visit Batman to see how he is coping. But Bruce have no time for chit-chat as he is occupied on a case.

The demon who have been summoned is Will o’ the Wisp.

The supernatural isn't in Batmans' wheelhouse either. Yes, he's read up on it and probably has John Constantine on speed-dial, but he doesn't deal with it often. And he's just as vulnverable to it as Superman, really.

Batman also has Jason Blood and Ragman in Gotham as allies and they're supernatural up the yin yang.

Or well, pre New 52 he did. No idea where either are in the modern era of the new 52.

Etrigan appeared in Stormwatch recently, where he'd apparently been buriedin the foundation of a building in central London or something, which technically means that Jason Blood was trapped in Hell all the time Etrigan was underground.

As rather than being the same person in the new continuity, they switch places between Hell and Earth depending on whether Jason transforms or not.

As for Ragman... last I'd seen of him he'd been possessed by a demon in the Golden Dawn arc... which might have been preboot, I can't remember. Either way he wasn't so much there as a character, more the villain casually mentioning he was possessing him, so they could have creepier visuals presumably.

The problem isn't that it's not Superman's bailiwick, it's that, being supernatural, it's able to mess with his supersenses (in ways that Batman isn't vulnerable to, because he doesn't have supersenses), leaving him wrong-footed and nauseous.

It's basically using his powers against him (unintentionally, I think, though I may turn out to be wrong next month), in a fairly clever way.

Am I the only one who just can't get used to Bruce and Clark calling each other "Batman" and "Superman" when they're alone? It just feels weird

It's even weirder given the context, you'd think that given Damian's death Clark would want to appeal to the man beneath the mask when speaking to Bruce.

The way Bruce has been going these days, he'd probably know what Clark's about to talk about from the tone of the first syllable and raise his NGGAAAAHFEELINGS Shield at a moment's notice.

Superman: Bruce, I...
Batman: Drop it.
(A lone tear drops from Superman's eye)

Well to be fair, they are technicly in public here. Don't want some maintanance worker to come up onto the roof in time to hear Superman call Batman 'Bruce' or vice versa.

A point addressed within the bat-family not that long ago - Batman is insisting on codename discipline with Nightwing, who is trying to be familiar because of Alfred's kidnapping.

I for one am 100% happy about it. In a world where mad geniuses can be listening in with microscopic robots, or interdimensional bad guys can watch them through "vibrations between worlds," or aliens can shapeshift (not to mention a modern realistic world where everyone is on camera all the time, or can be listened in on with relative ease), calling each other by their names at any time at all has always struck me as rather foolish.

You know, I now have to imagine that a small but persistent part of the Batman legend in Gotham is that sometimes he has Superman with him for what amounts to no reason.

Like, it's bad enough that Batman has taken an interest in whatever it is you're doing, but if fortune has really decided to screw you over tonight, you decided to pull your penny-ante bank job on an evening when he and Superman were arguing on a rooftop two blocks away.

Reminds me of that How It Should Have Ended episode with Pulp Fiction. The two wannabe thieves get ready to hold up the diner, only to see Superman and Batman in the booth next to theirs.

Heheheh.

Crook: 'FML. That's it, I'm going straight.' *drops gun and raises hands*
Superman: 'Good choice.' *bright, genuine smile*
Batman: '... You take all the fun out of the job, you know that?' *scowls... ... more than he already was*

Well, at least Bats and Supes are talking to each other without snarling. After the last major reboot in the mid-'80s, they barely talked to each for a decade! What a waste that was.

True. Post-Crisis up to ZERO HOUR, there was just "Dark Knight Over Metropolis" (ends with Clark giving Bruce a ring... Lex Luthor's kryptonite ring) and "Death in the Family." Both were very major stories, though.

Karl Kesel's WORLD'S FINEST miniseries was a look at the ten-year uneasy friendship between Batman and Superman, post-Zero Hour which added the "Batman as urban legend" element.

There's something VERY pleasing about Clark giving Bruce a ring, Green K or not. ;)

The urban legend element is interesting but makes it awkward with organizations like the JLA. I'm glad they ultimately dropped that.
