Barbara finds the location where the Ventriloquist have been hiding the female hostage from last issue.
When she gets inside, Batgirl get attack by puppeted corpses control by Shauna telekinesis. Barbara fights them for awhile then pins them to the floor with rope and a spike.
it get's trippier when you realize that the Puppet is being controlled by a woman, who is in turn being written by a woman...
weird thing is though, this would work better in a book like Secret Six and be less offensive... because you would have someone like Scandal having a very satysfying and brutal way of ending it... this doesn't sit well in a batgirl book... even the darker tone this one has taken...
And once again, Batgirl continues to reinforce my opinion of it and make me long for the days of Steph, which was sunshine and lollipops compared to this garbage. The new Ventriloquist concept is a bit better than some of the previous dullards Simone's had Barbara up against, but as pointed out in previous threads, it kind-of ruins the gimmick of the character when they have superpowers. It's less about the creepy dummy and it's bizarro relationship with it's owner, and more just a really messed up application of telekinesis.

i don't know... it's still the Ventriloquist's weird relationship with the puppet... the other "puppets" she uses are an added creepy factor (that probably doesn't need it) but the telikinesis itself i don't have a real problem with.
This Jim Gordon is really starting to get on my nerves. He knew full well his son was a murdering psychopath who just tried killing his mother, yet he wants to go on this revenge streak with Batgirl that even others have pointed out doesn't sound 100% right. And Babs Senior just kind of letting it happen, despite knowing what went on.
Ugh. How is this new Ventriloquist the more interesting character?
I'm surprised you didn't post the, "I think I'm gonna be sick" panel. Cause the moment I read that I just nodded and agreed. This issue was just disgusting. I just don't understand what the point was to SAWfy the Ventriloquist after wasn't the point of the New 52 to bring back Arnold and Scarface? Now.. they dropped that?
I feel like years of basically being DC-exclusive have ground Gail down to a nub. She's really not been treated particularly well by editorial. And this entire Batgirl series is fruit of a poisoned tree. She's been struggling to rise above that the entire run and hasn't ever managed to.
I rather enjoyed her run on Firestorm in the reboot though, and most of her work before this. I think she needs to get away from the Big Two entirely for a while and recharge her creative batteries, though.

Date: 2013-06-14 05:52 pm (UTC)in old continuity Jim knew she was Batgirl, it was even implied here that he still knew now.
Is he still so torn up about his son's death that he is disassociating the two now? willfully ignoring the fact that his daughter "killed" his son?
also, did Babs Sr really not see anything? because it seemed when he said he wanted to hunt down batgirl she wanted to tell him....
