This story has a superhero who is in a bad future and fighting killer cyborgs based on a Jack Kirby creation, and who is forced to renounce his infamous no-kill policy for the greater good... oh God, this is the nu52 version of 'Superman: At Earth's End', isn't it? They just gave the stupid beard to a different hero to throw us off.
Well, Terry does mention that Bruce and Mr. Terrific built Brother Eye, so perhaps they're going to assassinate Mr. Terrific. Future's End Bruce does instruct Terry to stay away from his Future Bruce, because Future Bruce would stop him from carrying out his mission.
Hey, did you know that the movie "X-Men: Day's of future past" just came out? Man I bet DC would like to get a piece of that coin, since their own cinematic efforts have been terrible up to this point, so lets play a game where we see how much we can rip it off and get away with it.
I liked it and it seems to be doing a better job than Age of Ultron with the time Travel stuff. I agree that with the new 52 hated this may have been a crappy zero issue to have but it was a pretty fun what if tale of C listers get curbed stomped.
The last pagecwith terry in times Square was cliche but had a lot of intiuging stuff in it.
hmmm with Identity Crisis seemingly removed (i'm conflicted, i LIKED 99% of the story... i didn't like what happened to Sue. i feel like just as much of a high stakes story could have been done without that element) WHY would this batman build Brother Eye?
I'm still assuming Ralph and Sue are alive and living in Britain and having fun adventures with the Knight and all their mates from The Time in a Bottle.
If you're an evil computer that's assimilated Superman, why would you even bother to replace his limbs with robot parts? He's Superman, it's not like robot legs are gonna be an upgrade, and he's already got lasers in his freaking eyes. Just give him an assimilation gun or something and replace his brain, anything else is just a step down.
I guess that wouldn't be as GRITTY AND ADULT though.
So Batman has created a killer robotic entity intent on murdering all superhumans now it's off it's leash.
Um. I'm sorry, I didn't realise we were back in 2005. Do we really need to repeat really, really freaking prominent elements of stories only nine years old? Clearly, based on this and Forever Evil, apparently so.
So basically this is a mishamash of many of the crossovers and alt-universe Didio has given us in the Didio era - mindless superheroes killing other heroes (Blackest Night), Terry McGuinness (Batman Beyond), Brother Eye as a key plot point (Infinite Crisis), grim dark killing and gore (pretty much everything).
Doesn't anyone at DC get tired of this? Isn't there a point where the darkness ends? In DC it's pretty much been this way since Identity Crisis on.
Huh, didn't that WW bot go down... awfully easily? I mean, what's the point of making supers into evil robots if they're approximately as tough as your other already-formidable bots? Purely psychological factor?
I'm glad the first issue was free, because I would have hated to think I spent $3 on it. I wanted to give this a chance, but wow, it's depressing reading. I'm not a New 52 Haterade chugger, either. I miss stuff from pre-Flashpoint DC, but there has been some good stuff in it. Futures End thus far does not qualify as such.
You know if this all ends with a version of Terry McGinnis Batman as a permanent part of the present time DCU, I'm completly okay with that. Especially if this Terry is also Bruce's biological son and knows it. It'll make for some fun if/when Damien comes back.

I can understand if you averted your eyes so hard that you missed it.
