I realise it's been a little while since I did a Fanart post, so let's address that, shall we?

And I'm devoting it to a single artist and a single project...

That or a Telltale game. It's got kind of an old school adventure game feel to it. The backgrounds are so vibrant.

I'm liking the way Clark's got that sort of hunched-shoulders look that makes him seem smaller than he is, and harmless. I've always liked the idea of a vast difference in body language being one of the key reasons people don't suspect Clark of being Superman.

Yeah, the body language is very reminiscent of Quitely's All-Star Superman. And the line style is very Kyle Baker-y, but also definitely not Kyle Baker. I likey.

Another small thing I have noticed is that Clark styles his hair differently than he does when he's Superman: the jari curl's gone, he has a cowlick that Superman doesn't, and the hairstyle is all around messier than Superman's. Alone it doesn't do much, but combined with everything else it really helps sell the disguise, especially with an art style like this.

On Cracked, they discussed how Christopher Reeves' Superman parts his hair in a different direction to Clark Kent. It's amazing the little touches they come up with to sell the difference.

I have to admit, though, the image of Supes with a Jheri curl is an amusing one.

It's not surprising for me when one thinks back to the old story of Luthor refusing to believe that Kent wasn't Superman, not least because Kent just seemed so much the opposite of Luthor's vision of who Superman was (or rather, how Superman presented), and the obviousness of our answers/explanations to those would implicitly make him a massive fool for overlooking them.

Oddly enough, the first thing I thought of when reading your post was an ancedote that the difference between the differing fortunes (and thus careers) of WWE pro wrestlers Jack Swagger and Roman Reigns was that the latter "carries himself" like a 'main attraction / lead' star, while the former's size is constantly underestimated and often only realized when meeting him in person. Alternately, the latter stands out even in a roster whose sizes are skewed above American-average while the former could get 'lost in the shuffle'.

I see a bunch of that theme in the idea that Clark's body language, posture, and even hairdo are part of the disguise.

Mind you, the implicit idea behind Luthor's 'vision of who Superman is supposed to be' has shades of 'how would I behave if I had those powers'...

Come to think of it, looking some more at the illustrations -- Clark actually seems to be the biggest dude (i.e. in the "bench picture, despite him being at the center) yet he's also wearing looser or baggier clothing that masks the "shape" of his mass... not so easy to spot a barrel chest or a 'top-heavy' frame behind a posture and clothing that scream "trying to hide a gut"! Sure, there's some 'shared features' that Clark isn't hiding such as head shape (i.e. chin, jawline, cheeks) or ways to catch him (i.e. coercing him to stand straight), but to me it seems that a bunch of this Superman's guise is to lure others into not thinking to look at those or ask those questions!

Re: the WWE anecdote: In fairness, Roman Reigns has had other advantages such as "looks like a romance novel cover pirate or vampire" and more lean/toned-looking arms... but the anecdote in the previous post is all despite Swagger being (allegedly) taller.

I like that Clark wears glasses that make his eyes look larger than they are to hide his normal 'heroic squint', and combined with the simple but wholesome lug look he's got going on, really makes this a fun design that I could get behind.

That group shot with Clark in the middle can be interpreted to imply that he's in a polyamorous relationship with Lois and Jimmy.

Given Jimmy's apparent age, I'd much rather we looked on it as an adorable hero worshipping little brother type thing

Jimmy doesn't actually look significantly younger than anyone else here, except Perry, IMO. They ALL look around 15 or 16 - for the first few pics, I was sure this was a high school AU, and even after looking through the whole tumblr tag, I'm not entirely sure I was wrong. (Obviously, the Planet would be the school's newspaper, and Perry the faculty advisor.)
