"Since childhood, there is a dignity in the Surfer that I've always admired, but I want to tap into the euphoric fun side of Norrin Radd that I've always wanted to see more of." -- Mike Allred

The Impossible Palace wants the Silver Surfer's aid against an enemy called the Never Queen. Its previous champions haven't fared well against her.

To Be Continued...

Dawn pretends to be a homebody, but she's clearly wearing some kind of futurey space dress. Kicky styling, a sassy skirt -- and a bodice that vacuum-seals to the skin!

Seriously, Mike, what's up with the boobs there.

One sister dressed like a bee, the other like a ladybird.... okay.

Surfer might not know who she is, but the alien guy DID say it reached out across TIME and space, so it's perhaps not that surprising.

Based on things so far, it looks like it's gonna be that Steven Moffaty self-fulfilling paradox where she becomes his most important person because she's chosen as his leverage.

The whole thing feels like Slott went into it mumbling, "They won't let me write a Doctor Who book? Well, I'll show them" and I hear half of the Silver Surfer's dialogue in Matt Smith's voice. That sort of paradox predates Moffat, though. It's how the sixth Doctor met Mel.

Now I can't unhear Matt Smith.

Ooh, I didn't catch that first time around... that is clever. Although it seems kind of weird that it'd try to grab someone that the target has never even met before to motivate them, even if they will be the most important person to them ever in the future. Maybe it's hoping for a predestination paradox.

EDIT: Sniped!

Ha! I never noticed all Eve's outfits were bee clothes....also never noticed that they're called Dawn and Eve & they're as different as morning and night, maybe I was half-asleep when I read this :p

I really liked this first issue! Not sure how I feel about Slott writing a less pretentious Surfer, but it works so far, and I am definitely here for these guys restoring a sense of crazy wonder to the Marvel Universe :)

Holy crap, is Slott finally writing a book that I want to read, for the first time in years?

Slow down there, cowboy. This is Dan Slott were talking about. No matter how good it might initially seem, the rot should set in sooner or later, and thereafter the slow spiral into a seemingly unending void of awful.

Ignore this negative nancy, this book has been consistently fun and charming.

Which really is how I've described every Slott book that isn't Spider-Man.

Strongly, heartily seconded. My daughter (who's 10) and I both adore this book... she wakes up at 5am on new comic book day, now, she's so excited for it. Slott has always been very hit and miss for me personally, but this book feels (so far) like he's found a title that works for his various skills, quirks and even foibles. I honestly recommend this book to everyone I know, and I ink you'd enjoy it regardless of your opinion of Slott. I know I have.

It might be hard to remember, but people actually used to love Dan Slott. His She-Hulk run as well as the Spider-man/Human Torch series were both very well recieved.

I loved GLA: Misassembled, because it not only brilliantly satirized both Avengers: Disassembled and Identity Crisis, but was just plain fun as well, and even threw in a little genuine pathos for good measure. I practically wore out my copy of the TPB. That's what made Slott's Spidey run especially disappointing for me, and never mind his relentless trolling of the fanbase (at least in the early years).

He's kind of like David E. Kelley in that way: starts off fun, eventually starts letting his own prejudices influence the work too much, and it just stops being fun.

Also they both became really famous writing about a single female lawyer.
