Have to say though, that that Cluemaster outfit is one of THE worst redesigns of the New52, and that's saying something. Years back I posted some pages from a Batman homage title, Knight Watchman, which featured a Riddler expy called the Quizmaster, and I thought his Q-Q goggles were about as silly as mask-goggles could get... I stand corrected, it's like he's an ee cummings fan or something
Yeah, I totally missed that the goggles spell clue at first glance and couldn't figure out what CE was meant to stand for...I don't mind the rest of it as an update, those goggles are whack though
I think the new Spoiler outfit makes up for it though! Nice blend of her Batgirl/oldSpoiler costumes! :)
Oh, Good Grief. I didn't see the CluE in his glasses until you pointed it out. That is Silver Age levels of Tacky. It's not a good silly, it's just terrible.
One shouldn't dress like you're in Times Square on New Year's Eve and expect people to consider you a bad-ass.
Personally, I love that the art made it possible to catch that little detail *before* the reveal. I got to CM ranting about how he owns the GCPD, and had to stop and go back a panel, thinking, "Wait, aren't those Smokey hats? That's state troopers, not City..."
At least (in the spirit of the Silver Age) the outfit sets up this last panel: "Frankly, when it comes to fashion... you just don't have a clue!" Heroes laugh, villain fumes as he does the perp walk, THE END.
I have to say, the only real quibble I have with this is just how quickly Steph went from 'girl hiding out in the local library' to 'taking down her dad'. I absolutely love this sequence, but that is basically in the back of my mind since I know we didn't really see her reach this level of competence.
I do like that Steph figured a way around this that didn't just involve giving her dad a good pasting, too.
Makes about as much sense as the rest of the nu52, so from his perspective, it might have worked.
I mean, do we even know if the murder attempts are still canon in this issue? They might have changed a line of dialog for the trades to make it not his fault.
And yes, I know, that's probably a bit overly bitter of me, and I should be glad that Stephanie is back, but still, I remember when DC did reboots and included timelines to help us readers know what changed.
They'd be disoriented by the change in scenery and mood. "Wait--what is this? Where are the cramped alleyways? The looming nineteenth-century tenements? The decrepit gothic cathedral on every corner? What is this... Applebees? I-I'm scared! Please, Bat--AAAH! What is that burning light! Get it off of me!"
"It's the sun. I don't like it either. Deputies, please take him away."
"Yessir. We'll put him in a secure facility, one in which any visitors will be searched thoroughly, especially for cards, coins, hats, or particularly umbrellas."
"...no need to be sarcastic, guys."
(Which makes me think: OK, I know that Dick used to patrol Bludhaven (or is/was it Blüdhaven?), but has anyone riffed on the idea of Gotham's suburban superhero, who's basically a non-powered version of Clark--primary colors, patrols during the day, generally positive and cheerful?)
heheheh i love the mixed "Scream" and "Hysterical laughter" when not only did her plan work, but she nailed the rail grab. i LOVE that she is having fun. is that weird?
Nah - much like Pre-New52 Dick, Steph is always one of those character I expect to enjoy her work, somehow - even if only a little bit, which was one of the reasons I'm rather sad we never saw his Batman and her Batgirl interact more. I do like that she's retained that, and that Harper also seems actually enthusiastic about working with Tim - it makes a nice change compared to the constant grimdark grimdark grimdark.
