Well, of COURSE Dick would be Moonwing for Amalgam! (Always recognized for his assets) I had this way back when. It was one of my favorites, along with Dr. SupremeFate or whatever he was called.
It was rather clever of them to have Luthor get kryptonite poisoning and become the Green Skull. Clever and fun...also bonkers. Just how I liked my comics back then...*sigh*...
You know, now that you bring it up, it does seem odd that the didn't decide to give Luthor superpowers from the long-term kryptonite exposure instead of just plain old cancer, given how many times in comics strange substances mutate people. Then again, giving him superpowers defeats the entire point of his character, so they probably made the right call.
See, now this is a little weird to me. Not the story itself, but the fact that Bruce Wayne exists at all. I mean the whole point of the Amaglam Universe is that different characters got fused together, and IIRC, it was a pretty significant plot point that Batman fused with Wolverine to become Dark Claw. So where the hell did this Bruce Wayne come from? Did the universe just decide that Batman and Bruce Wayne were two separate people in one body or something?
Regardless, I love the entire concept of Amaglam, and wish the two would do it again at some point.
The amalgam universe was weird about exactly how mixed folks turned out to be. Like how Ororo was fused with Wonder woman to create Amazon but Diana still existed as a unique character. The same happened with Bruce Wayne and Logan. You had Dark Clawn who was Batman Plus Wolverine but Bruce Wayne existed solo as an agent of shield. Then you had folks like Strangefate who was actually three folks in one.
Yeah, that is true. Strangefate's situation was the weirdest to me because there didn't seem to be any real reason to throw Xavier in there when Dr. Strange and Dr. Fate were a perfectly good combination on their own. I had forgotten completely about Amazon (though in hindsight, that explains what Ororo was doing in Diana's flashback in the previous post), and now that I think about it, Tony's in a similar situation here, since he and Hal supposedly fused to create Iron Lantern.
The reason why this sticks out to me in particular though, is because in order to defuse the two universes, they had to get a 'paragon' from each universe, and so they had to get Captain America and Batman to meet up and do... something (can't exactly remember what). And so they had Dark Claw and Super Soldier meet up so that the halves of them that came from those two could be reformed into their true selves. But again, this whole situation would basically imply that they never got the whole Bruce Wayne back when they remade Batman. It's probably not that important given that the entire arc was basically fanservice for comic readers as is, but it's still bugging me.
You're not wrong, but none of these editorial notes refer to anything that really exists so you just have to use your imagination to figure out what kind of story, "the Murder Gag," is. Part of the conceit of Amalgam was they made up a whole intertwined history with a fake letters page, and references to decades of continuity that simply didn't exist.
I loved that part of it.
Also the first Dark Claw comic (as opposed to Dark Claw adventures which was a Timmverse styled follow up), is one of my favourite Amalgam comics... so glad they got Larry Hama to do it.
