While Pat makes his own way to China, Lamont and Margot make their own way via luxury plane.

Meanwhile in Shanghai, Kondo meets up with a General Akamatsu, his immediate superior in the expedition. While Akamatsu immediately begins complaining about the heat, Kondo's lack of respect and the fact that China appears to be full of Chinese people, Kondo fills him in on the details of his brother's death.
He mentions that his contacts in New York say that his brother was killed by a vigilante known as the Shadow, who Kondo suspects is a man he knows from his post-World War One days as a gangster in Shanghai: a man that is known by various names, one of which is Lamont Cranston.
He warns him that his contacts have said that Cranston left San Francisco for Hawaii a short time ago en route to Shanghai. And since Lamont is an insanely lethal individual, Kondo tipped off the Nazis (who like the Americans and Soviets are also interested in the minerals) to Cranston being on the plane so they can kill him mid-flight.
Back on the plane, the Nazis are having a distinct lack of success in this area, managing to gun down the pilots in addition to one of the engines in their attempts to kill the pair. While Margot disarms and wrestles with one of the spies, the rest rush into the luggage area... which suddenly has become much darker and has sinister laughter coming from the shadows...
In Shanghai, Akamatsu begins eating lunch while he explains the importance of their mission.

On the plane, Cranston has gotten changed into his bad guy-killin' clothes and begins mowing down the Nazis. After Margot is forced to shoot her Nazi with a flare gun, causing the woman to slowly burn to death to Lane's horror, Lamont decides to mess with the last bad guy standing, who has begun stabbing holes in the aircraft's fuel tanks.

Margot's Nazi dies soon after, due to to the extent of her injuries and despite Margot's attempts to put her out. It's at this point the Shadow and Margot realise that they're still over the Pacific Ocean, minus one engine, both pilots and an increasing amount of their fuel. Cranston rushes to the cockpit, where he uses his ring to force one of the pilots to stay alive long enough to land... which they do, after a fashion, several hours later on a beach close-ish to Shanghai...
