FCBD: Captain Canuck

I'm not sure if this FCBD issue was only available in Canada, so allow me to post it for all Scans_daily readers to enjoy.



I admit I'm not very familiar with Captain Canuck. At first glance, he seems like a generic Captain America expy/patriotic superhero. But the character is 40 years old this year and still remembered, and he's getting a reboot that looks pretty interesting. Here's a summary for the new series:

Captain Canuck is a hero born in battle, tested in war, and granted the choice of how to use his incredible powers and advanced technology, which could alter the fate of the world.

Tom Evans is a brave but troubled Canadian soldier. When he and his brother Michael gain superpowers from an alien artifact, they both must work through a lifetime of differences to ensure their gifts are used for the betterment of all humankind. Thrust into battle by Equilibrium, a fledgling intervention agency, Tom must find his way as figurehead and hero Captain Canuck to save humanity- and his brother's soul- from the machinations of Mr. Gold... and even more dangerous forces that lurk in the shadows.

The complete reboot of the classic comic book hero featuring words and art by Kalman Andrasofszky, George Freeman and Ed Brisson, premieres with #0 on FCBD and the ongoing monthly later in May 2015. Don't miss out!

Captain Canuck(2015) is written and drawn by Kalman Andrasofszky, published by Chapterhouse comics (Facebook page here) and the series has a facebook page and its own webpage, with info on the characters and even an animated webseries you can watch. Captain Canuck #1 will be released North America wide on may 27th.

I remember seeing (and liking) this redesign a couple years ago and being a little disappointed that the whole project was fairly limited in scope. I'm glad to see it's finally being put to use on a more permanent basis, hopefully it succeeds.

I've seen a table for Captain Canuck merchandise at my local comic-con the past 2-3 years, I'm happy that an actual comic is finally being released. I also really liked the webseries on their site.

Redcoat's design is my favorite. Her outfit looks so practical.

I'm digging Kebec's bio, it really does read like a Larry Hama file card for Joe. I think that more than anything else sold me on giving this a try.

I have to admit, this is entirely new to me too. Then again, I'm not from Canada but the concept is pretty awesome.
It reminds me of the time when Dark Horse did something similar with a character called Captain Midnight for FCBD 2013.

I wish more aliens tried to take over planets with TIME and long cons rather than just shooting things with lasers.

Oh hey, they used Vostok 1 for the great achievement panel. I always love when people acknowledge that in fiction. When it comes to space, writers tend to default to Apollo 11.

There's something about the way his eyes are drawn on the helmet that bugs me, but aside from that I love this art and the costume designs!! Blue Fox in particular looks amazing! If I ever run another superhero RPG I am stealing her :D

Y'know, I just hate it when my Scout troop wanders off and gets mind-controlled by aliens. Bugs me every time!
