"For me, that’s the horror I enjoy the most. The monsters are always scary visually, but ultimately what's scary is the pressure they put on the human characters in the narrative to act the ways they’re afraid they might act. Take something like Stephen King's Pet Sematary. When you have that cemetery out there—the love you have for your wife, for your kid, or the fear of death, the fear of loss—the feelings or actions that monster engenders are what I hope to aspire to." - Scott Snyder

With the recent finale to the first arc of the series, let's take an actual look at Scott Snyder & Jock's Wytches series. We'll start by looking at the free preview that Image offered a few months in advance of the first issue to get people hyped...

This preview was sent to many different websites all over the Internet for free, like Comic Book Resources and Comic Vine. Comixology has it available and even Image Comics themselves has it digitally available. Check it out here if you are interested.

For some reason, I'm getting a real Paranormal Activity vibe. Must be the whole first-person fixed POV thing that reminds me of the cameras.

Well both have witches... although the PA witches are really more in line with the Rosemary's Baby style of thing, while the Wytches ones are... fairytale monsters who'll perform magic for you in exchange for people to eat.

Although I'd been getting the issues since the preview, I hadn't actually started reading this series properly until the weekend (they're hard to read on my laptop, and my gf got me a tablet for my birthday, so yay).

It's actually pretty good. Definite King vibe in there, less like American Vampire and more like his mini-series Severed.

The whole 'Look at my colour' thing is confusing. Did he mean he was pale or something, because it doesn't show in the art.

Pale, or possibly yellowish, both colours associted with ill health, but yeah, not really seeing much difference.

I actually recommend this series. Creepy and has an interesting take on witches.
