Free Locke & Key audio dramatization on Audible

Something I thought that might be of interest is Audible has released a full-cast (over fifty actors/actresses) dramatization of Locke & Key. It's free for the entire month of October and can be downloaded here.

As far as I can tell (it's over thirteen hours long) it covers the entire series.

For those not familiar with the series it's sort of hard to explain without spoilers but here's a tease... a family inherits an old mansion where certain keys can unlock doors and, well... here's a small selection from #1.

I pre-ordered the audio drama as soon as I finished reading the comic...have it downloaded, but haven't listened to it, yet.

As interested as I am, it feels like an inherently odd decision to audio-dramatise a comic book. Dirk Maggs has done a lot of wonders with popular British novels, but one would think a comic would involve even more instances of characters describing what they're seeing to each other, especially in a work as visually rich as L&K. I wonder how much input Rodriguez had on production?

Nevertheless, I am interested.

At the very least, they've given both of the creative team a nod with the audiobook's cover, which I'm pretty surprised by.

Yeah for example one of the comics is basically a homage to Bill Watterson's art style with 'Calvin and Hobbes' and that would be hard to get across with just audio.

I've actually given it a download for the hell of it, and it's not terrible, though also not as good as a Dirk Maggs adaptation. It feels less like a transcription of the story onto audio and more like something you'd listen to while reading the comic itself for a more AR experience.
