Am I missing some context from the various scans of this series that've been posted here, or is it really just one group of murderous terrorist a-holes versus a group of tyrannical terrorist a-holes with Kyle stuck in-between?

I think you are correct.

I also find it strange that putting Kyle in a book so far removed from the rest of DC's shared universe its literally kept off limits by a treaty with one of the Quintessence, striping him of a power ring, and putting in a book without even a hint of his name on it is suppose to be viewed by his fans as a promotion/respect.

Omega Men is the part of that continuity doesn't matter thing that DC has going on right? Because last I remember Kyle was a white lantern with a couple of new white lantern friends who wouldn't take kindly to what's going on here.

What's most strange about this sequence is that the series has referenced him as a White Lantern before.

Apparently he... gave up the White Lantern thing at the end of New Guardians, and split the ring into seven colored rings so he didn't have to worry about overloading with the Life Equation or something. Accordingly to Wikipedia. I guess that's how he's back to being Green, but...

I think he was a White Lantern when he was killed at the start of the series. But when he arrived in this part of the universe he had to take off his ring because lanterns weren't allowed to wear their rings there (for a stated reason). That's how they got him.
