Back to the fun that is Blue Exorcist as we introduce more characters!

Rin is very impressed by the guy's score, but Suguro gets mad at him and complains that Rin isn't doing his best here and is just slacking off. He gets very confrontational with our lead, but is pulled away by his friends before anything gets too physical.
Later, Yukio gives some detail about this student, saying he's Ryuji Suguro, an heir to a temple over Kyoto. He's at the school on a scholarship and is probably the highest scoring student when it comes to his exorcism classes.
Even later in P.E. class, Rin and Suguro get into a fight while they're learning how to dodge and read demon movements. As the P.E. teacher takes with Suguro...

That night 16 years ago, powerful exorcists, like the head monk at the time, started bleeding all over, spewed blue fire, and then died. Blue fire is the mark of Satan. Ossama was still in training at the time. He hid in a corner of the temple until morning.
Later, he took over the temple, but because of the deaths, everyone thought the temple was creepy and it lost patrons and visitors. They started calling it the cursed temple. The place soon fell out of use.
Soon, the P.E. teacher tells the class that he needs to run home quickly and take care of something. While he is gone, he wants them to stay out of the training arena where their test demons are. The demons are frog-like creatures called Reapers, who are peaceful... but will attack you if they sense negative emotions in you.
Once the teacher is gone...

I've got the same ambition that you do.. so I can't die over something ridiculous like this.
Flashback time!!

He angrily lashes out at Rin and jumps into the arena himself, approaching a Reaper, who is just watching him at this point. He angrily declares that he'll be the one to defeat Satan as he approaches the creature, which gets some laughter from the other students. Inside, he angrily thinks: Don't laugh... at my... ambition!
However...

The frog immediately lets go and Rin calls Suguro out on his crap.
Sometime later, Sir Mephisto meets with an odd figure...

Mephisto: Heh heh. No, I don't think I'll return. To a libertine like me... there could be no better playground than this. The real fun is just beginning.
We end with this small scene...

Date: 2016-04-24 07:26 am (UTC)Thing about 'shonen fight' series is they're such a well-worn genre, that sometimes you get people who just *really* get it, and know how to play it line a finely tuned violin. Yea, it's not *different*, it's just *good*.
Also it reminds me of Kekkaishi, one of my other favs.

Still, I am surprised by how much I liked it, despite the powers in the show at least at the time , not being that varied. Kudos for the writer to that.
