We finally get a full look at how Barry Allen and Vic Stone will look for 2017's Justice League! Check it:
We'll be trying the defendants separately, so let's check the Flash first.

That costume seems to be made of either fabricated alloy or sleek fabric. Whatever the call, there better be some explanation for that professionally-made (in-universe) costume.
The CW did well with the suit being made by actual STAR Labs scientists, but any other implication that Barry made his own cutting-edge, friction-resistant suit needs explaining. The research part'll be easy if Barry has speed-reading, but he doesn't have Waynetech-level finances for material procurement and manufacturing, and such.
Anyway, I like the little yellow line on Flash's temple! From afar it really does look like he has his mercury wings: it's the same neat optical trick from Captain America's helmet. Close-ups reveal the iffyness of the whole thing, though.
Next, we have Cyborg:

Maybe ditch the curvy faux-musculature stuff on the torso, guys. It's tempting go all artsy, but let characterization (if any, mild burn) sell the human: let visuals sell the machine. We're talking comic-booky movies, where audience-facing visuals are more important than any underlying design concepts that'll end up being BTS minutiae anyway. We need 'render unto Caesar'(or magic/sci-fi, as is the case), not Clarke's Third Law.
It reminds me of the GL movie costume: taking visual elements from a sci-fi/tech-dominated concept and applying an overly organic aesthetic to them. If I wanted to watch Gungans, I can't even finish that set-up correctly because I don't want Gungans ever again.
A lot of it could work (particularly the arm/leg/neck segments), but mostly it looks like something an evil Vic would wear: the evil Cyborg from Injustice looks less evil than the movie Cyborg presented here. A palette swap between the parts with light and dark colors could help.
In conclusion: although Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Batman look great, maybe DC needs to bogart from the MCU's design team. Inter-company jealousy aside, I really trust their costume people - they've got a good thing going on there (except probably Civil War!Spidey).
I'll still be rooting for this movie because I grew up DC, but previous accumulated goodwill is an evasive, poor excuse to not point out possible flaws, especially if it's in the interest of improvement. Good luck, production team!

Date: 2016-06-29 02:35 pm (UTC)Me, I guess it'd be Flash that's a tough sell to adapt. You get all tjses questions about breaking physics and why he's not fast enough to stop a lot of big picture things from happening but fast enough for a lot of other things, a la Quicksilver.

Date: 2016-06-30 06:09 pm (UTC)The problem with that Cyborg design is that absolutely nothing about it reads "superhero". He looks more like a generic supersoldier in a forgettable scifi action movie than a member of the Justice League.

Date: 2016-07-01 10:53 pm (UTC)Starter suit! That's the term I was looking for! Yeah, it does seem like that, instead of a final suit look: more along the lines of a USO Showman!Cap costume instead of an Avengers!Cap costume.
