That being said, i do like that it wasn't "white hero takes the morally highroad and teaches the poor non-white native the importance of ethics" or some crap like that...
I like how it this opens with Clint being treated like a hero, taking selfies, signing autographs, getting hugs and then having a guy telling him that he's a "True Hero, The Hulk deserved to die and the world is a better place now." And Clint just... shakes his hand and smiles.
Okay, wow, that's not how you take an arrow out of someone. And I really hope Clint's pulling one of his carny tricks and not actually about to torture a guy for information.
It pisses me off so much how often that tired old trope comes up, and that it works every time! Can we please have a story somewhere that the "hero" tortures someone for information, believes it because it was obtained via torture and "nobody would lie through that," and it turns out to be fake because the victim was just telling the "hero" whatever they wanted to hear to make it stop?
I know it has happened in GTA several times and in Red Dead redemption.
Though in RDR the guy being tortured knew he would be dead either way, so that's probably the main reason he lied to you and set the protagonist to an ambush. But that still counts, right?
Y'know, I can't help but feel, as not-Hawkeye is doing all this that maybe, just maybe, he should have some... other superhero, maybe one who is meant to operate in space, to constantly talk down to as he's doing all this.
(And then there's this unshakable feeling that Clint should have a goatee and a stupid hat...)
Ehr... the artist was unsure about Frank's looks or something? One moment he has a brown jacket, and red lipstick and nails. The next page he has a jeans jacket and no lipstick...
Presumably the whole 'on trial for killing the Hulk' thing was a pretty big deal in the Marvel universe, so it's pretty ridiculous that those bad guys don't recognise Hawkeye.
Now... I assume this is the same Red Wolf who was catapulted through space and time from 1872 or whenever, and not the other Red Wolf who has been operating for ages as part of the Rangers. Though obviously, maybe the other one ceased to exist...
I'd almost have preferred American Eagle in his place, since we haven't seen enough of him since his redesign and revamp.
I give this series 6 issues, 12 at the very most. It's too topical (heck, "Occupy X" feels too last year already) and too niche for its own good.
I picked this up and was disappointed from the first page. I would've read the hell out of Fraction and Aja's Hawkeye with Pizza Dog in tow, stumbling through a mash up of Standing Rock and the Flint water crisis. Not this.
Hmm. There's story potential here. Hawkeye and whoever he ends up recruiting, wandering across America, righting wrongs, possibly with a touch of the old Incredible Hulk show to it, just to make it slightly more painful. Sadly, the comic itself was a bit too busy trying to be edgy and political (Although the title itself is something of a giveaway there, honestly), and it got in the way of the story.
Also, can I just say how much I despise the 'oh, sure, you save the world from super powered killers, but when have you ever actually helped make the world better?' routine every single time it shows up in a comic. In a world where the Red Skull, Thanos and Galactus are real things, I'd say the people that drive them back time and time again deserve some damn respect.
In a world where the Red Skull unleashed a bio-weapon that spread across several states, probably killing thousands, if not more, not long after 2001, you'd think people would maybe stop with that crap.
"Yeah, I'm happy I didn't die in hideous, hideous agony thanks to you Avengers, but that's not going to stop me blaming you for people driving drunk!"

Just... oof. This narration by Clint. Trying so hard to justify that Hulk killing.
