NoScans - Information about the New Mutants movie

Courtesy of Comingsoon.net we have what appears to be more information about The New Mutants movie slated for release in early 2018.



Including who/what the villain will be, and a test animatic of a scene from it.

So the team will, as previously announced be Mirage, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Cannonball, Magik, and Warlock. (STILL missing a certain someone, eyes icon, but such is life)

Allegedly previous casting rumours are confirmed and Maisie Williams will be Rahne and Anya Taylor-Joy will be Illyana, plus the latest is that Nat Wolff will play Cannonball.

The vibe will not be quite what you might expect, but given that the villain will be the Demon Bear (As seen in Bill Sienkiewicz) that might make sense. I suspect that "Stranger Things" will have had a bit of an impact on how this one goes...

Yeah, we already have one bloody awful "Island of Dr Moreau" movie (The Brando/Kilmer one in 1996) we really don't need another...

Never mind my... natural antipathy towards the AniMator for obvious reasons.

It'd be a very apt and cinematic choice, the Demon Bear Saga is a very good story, with a reality warping powerset and was the first to really feature Bill S's soon to be trademark not-Marvel-House-Style-at-all style

It' a good story no doubt, but I think the dynamics of it would keep it from being a good movie, specially when it's supposed to be the first movie.

The Demon Bear Saga was indeed a very good story, but had some really weird Claremontisms (like white people turning into Native Americans!) that I hope get left out of the script. And I hope whoever they cast as Dani can carry the emotional parts of that storyline.

I'm almost sad to learn that, because I love that cast and the choice of the villain, but I bet we'll not getting even half of that (there is a lot of time for things to change until the movie is done)

But if things get really done, New Mutants may be be the first Fox X-movie to introduce aliens and magic (unless they bring some radical changes to Magik and Warlock).

After her turn as the incredibly uninteresting Viking Robot Girl (Yes, I know she's not a robot of any kind) I don't have a great deal of faith in Maisie William's acting abilities.
(Having not seen that "Game of Thrones" thing people have mentioned, I don't know how she was there, but last year's Doctor Who didn't leave a good impression, is all.)
Particularly for a character with Rahne's level of emotional complexity.

Though if the movie retained even half of Rahne's backstory / characterisation, I'd buy a hat and eat it.
(And given the vastly different nature of Moira Mactaggert, pretty sure that relationship isn't going to show up...)

She's fine in GOT. Great, even. In fact, it's typically Sophie Turner who gets ragged on in Game of Thrones... Largely because she doesn't get all badass or stabby like most characters in the show, and this is typically construed as her being weak despite, you know, *context*..

But yeah, Doctor Who is.. Not particularly an amazing judge of anyone's acting ability, as of late. If I'd only know Capaldi from Who, I wouldn't be particularly impressed, for instance.

Not sure what you mean, Dani Moonstar is Mirage and she's in the cast.

*Googles Anya* She's an American-born Argentine-British actress. Hopefully she can do a Russian accent...though that might not be needed since Illyana spent time in Limbo.

Yeah, given that Claremont didn't tend to be terribly subtle about when his characters were speaking with an accent, I never read her as having one.

Huh, she'll have mostly learned conversational English from the alternate version of Ororo (with an Egyptian accent? Kenyan?) and Belasco (14th century Florentine Italian?). Who knows what the hell that would do to her accent.

I thought that was Kitty with Lockheed and was wondering what was going on and then realised it was supposed to be Illyana. Transposing Lockheed to Yana seems really weird to me.

Its probably more thematically appropriate for the girl with the soulsword and magic armor to have a tiny purple pet European dragon than the ghost Ninja girl.

Yeah, they're including Warlock, but not Cypher, so clearly any sense of rationality has long since departed.

I mainly remember New Muatnts for that really cute story where Mephisto went on a date. Is the rest of the series worth checking out?

It has it's ups and downs, but some of it is very good indeed.

Their broad mission of "Clearing up the shit that major crossover events have left behind" was a good one and allowed a lot of variety, plus it meant they ended up with a more inclusive cast all co-existing than any X-book had had in ages. The team included mutants, former mutants, back from the dead mutants, aliens, cross dimensional refugees and they could call on Asgardian assistance if needed.

They're also missing Magma and Karma. The latter is especially unfortunate since if Fox played their cards right they could have featured an openly queer lead character in a major superhero film before Marvel Studios or DC could.

They still might with Deadpool 2.

They need to have a Vietnamese actress play Karma. Her nationality is so important to her character. If they fuck up and cast a person of a different Asian ethnicity (ala Memoirs of a Geisha)........

Did January Jones enjoy playing Emma Frost? I wish they could invite her back....because I still think she can give a non-phoned in performance like she did in FC. She gets a lot of hate (ESPECIALLY from the Mad Men fans) so it would be interesting to see her in the New Mutants.

Karma isn't among the listed cast. So even if she's in the movie she won't play a big role. Hell Jubilee was in the last movie and she didn't play a big role
