Alexander Luthor and The Earth-2 Superman were Strawmen as well. DC knew many fans just didn't like how gloomy thing were in the DCU, and put those words in the mouths of Alex, Kal-L and Superboy Prime.
So, it was pretty much the villains of INFINITE CRISIS who thought the DCU had to lighten up a little bit. And they were agreeing with the fans.
Remember, anyone who criticizes Johns or DC Editorial is just like this. Protest all you want, make your silly appeals to "logic" or "fun", they don't care; they know the truth, they've got your number (and their fingers in their ears).
Founded by girl geeks and members of the slash fandom, scans_daily strives to provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free.
Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.

I just hope we never see the stereotyped "villain" again.
In any form.
