I'm full of irrational rage right now. With what you know of Supergirl what guild do you think she would be in? The options are religious, science, art, labour and military. Got your answer?

Alura sends her around all the guilds' most important men. (why men? its never questioned) and she comes to this conclusion

I get why she's doing it but damn that makes me rage. It was only in the Brainiac arc she didn't care about studying sunstone crystals and in final crisis she was painting and playing guitar. Its a beautiful issue, truly and everyone should buy it but I care too much about this character for that to sit well with me. that may be the sign of good writing.

Someone should post the part with the nice old man Zal-Tel (if anyone has seen the Supergirl movie that sounds familiar). Actually here's a clip of why science may not be great.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLyfoUWa1BI
Funny thing is that used to be out of character, pre-crisis she was great at science and technology.

I imagine that Kara picking a guild is the equivalent of a teenager picking a college. There's a lot of little things that are unimportant but affect their choice. I don't see "I'm joining the Science Guild to understand my mother better" as much different from "I'm going to State U because I don't want to be far from home."

I agree that it's obvious that she'd be happier in the Artist's Guild. That said, this is clearly the second best choice for her, and I can understand why she made that choice.

Wait, I'm confused. Isn't this the mother who blamed her for her father's death and became an unrelenting bitch towards her?

they worked some of the issues out. For example some of the punishments were just her giving Kara "a day in the life" type things to refamiliarize herself with the day to day goings on of the guilds.

I was expecting the military guild in an elaborate plan to keep an eye on Zod.

Don't need her AND Clark doing that. It'd probably not work too well, either. Clark's an adult, with relevant experience, which allowed them to put him directly into an officer's position. Kara'd just be an apprentice.

Did he at least do the "Kneel before Zod" line before he died?

Nah, but several people (including the son of Jor-El) were kneeling around his freshly-dead corpse.

It's only to feel closer to her mother.

I;m just pissed it's a reason to see more of Byrne's damn Kryptonian costumes. The worst designs they ever had.

Of course, eventuallly New Krypton will go away and she'll be living on Earth full time as Linda Lang

Agree she criticise the Byrne Kryptonian costumes early in the issue and I cheer. But then the ending happen, then just shake my head in disbelieve.

my big issue is Lois still being so upset she asked Kara to stay off Earth, as much as possible.

Speaking of Lois, am I the only one who'd like to see her as a new Superwoman. Supergirl left her a piece of the costume. She could have someone recreate it.

Not a bad idea, that. But I'm still angry at Lois' over the top anger toward Kara who was only defending herself. Silver-Age Lois had more sense!
This was a pretty decent issue. The Guild Of The Belly Shirts apparently didn't survive Krypton's destruction, making Kara's options less clear.

Yeah, man, she should get over it. Lucy's just her sister, geez, it's not like Kara killed someone important to her.

It just feels misdirected to me. Lois should be furious, but considering how OOC Lucy was acting it should be more at the people, whoever they are, who put her up to it.

"Whoever they are" being Lois and Lucy's father, General Sam Lane, who was supposed to be dead. From what I read when I skimmed the issue, he basically emotionally blackmailed Lucy into doing it. Lois is already tracking him down, and I expect and EPIC beatdown to ensue.

oh sure, but she didn't know that initially.

Eh. Kara is directly responsible for her sister's death. It was her finger on the trigger, as it were. No matter how accidental it was, no matter how insane the situation or how much Lucy or some third party was at fault, it simply isn't human to expect that Lois will be able to just brush it off in favor of the real bad guys. She's really being amazingly chill, considering; she's not giving Kara any shit or demanding anything from her or even insisting that Kara be the one to figure out who the real culprits are and deal with them in order to atone, which given Kara's choice to be a superhero actually does seem like it'd be within Lois' rights. All she's doing is trying not to be around Kara, which is the fairest and most reasonable possible reaction she could have in this kind of mess.

Clark's a clueless ass for putting that on Kara, though. "It's easier for me with her not around so please encourage your cousin, within reason, to keep doing what she's doing that keeps her away" is a totally legit thing to ask of your husband. There is absolutely no legit reason for him to put that effort on Kara instead of himself, though, as "hey, kid, don't come home, you make people feel bad" isn't an okay thing to tell the confused and hurting teenager in your care.

I'm not sure there's a way that Clark can't pass it onto Kara though. "Kara, I don't want you to spend any time on Earth and I can't tell you why." That's not very good either.

I personally always felt anger makes Lois hard. Like she should be recruiting Kara to find out why the hell Lucy would become Superwoman and make someone pay for it. I actually feel that would be more appropriate and less painful for Kara.

If he does it right, he shouldn't have to mention it to her at all, really. Just keep an eye on her, and when she says something like "I thought I'd go back to Earth this weekend and see how Lana's doing," he can step in and say "uh... I think your mom is feeling a little lonely, actually, and I hear Lana's got a thing in Cairo this Saturday anyway, so why don't you just hang here." It still probably wouldn't take her that long to figure out that he's trying to keep her there on purpose, no matter how slick he is, but that's still going to come across differently than "you disgust my wife, sorry."

Like she should be recruiting Kara to find out why the hell Lucy would become Superwoman and make someone pay for it.

Makes sense, and honestly I'd like to see it anyway because I find it fairly weird and not to her credit that Kara seems relatively disinterested in solving the whole Lucy mystery. Maybe Lois is trying to suppress that instinct for Kara's sake?

From: [identity profile] jlbarnett.insanejournal.com
well, Lucy is someone I'm not sure Kara ever even heard mentioned before. So she might not really know how OOC it was for Lucy, that the how is as much a mystery as why.

Of course Lois did ask her to leave and she is the second family member who blamed her for someone else's death so she might just be accepting that.

Kara's related to her as well, and Lucy's demise was LUCY'S FAULT! Taking it out on Kara, a then-teen, for defending herself was and is wrong. Lois owes Kara an apology.

"Lois owes Kara an apology," that's good. I like it. More subtle than "Liefeld is a great artist," fresher and less scatological than "monkeys fly out of my butt." I may have to start using that.

she's met her more than twice. Part of my idea with Lois becoming Superwoman would have involved one of those classic "I lost one member of my family, I won't lose another," scenes.

Mweh? I was expecting art guild. I'm not even completely up to date on canon, and I was figuring art guild and not science guild. Not saying she'd be bad at science, far from, but that she'd probably be happier in the art guild.
