gotta say, going down fighting Galactus sounds like a much more proper last stand for Uatu.

Also, Norrin Radd, the people of Earth heard that Galactus was going to eat their planet (and probably "sensed" he wasn't lying). Of course they would cower in abject fear!

It kind of makes me wonder why the Surfer never joined the Avengers during any of his times trapped on Earth. Yes, he's overpowered, but he'd have been a hell of an asset and he could have used the companionship. Instead, it was all about the Defenders, who didn't even -like- each other half the time.

Interesting that this What If had to remove the FF, Namor, Doom, and Captain America from the board in order to work.

That's a good question, actually. Before New Avengers it was tradition to keep some of more loner-type characters out of the Avengers, but since then pretty much anyone is a potential member. Norrin would have fit right in with Hickman's Avengers - the other founding Defenders were already there.

As for taking characters off the board, those are pretty tradition What If details. Johnny Storm discovers Namor, then Namor frees Captain America, so remove one link and the chain falls apart. Which has never really made sense, frankly. No one besides Johnny could recognize that musclebound drifter with pointy ears looks like a major WWII figure? Is that Inuit tribe completely uncontacted?

No one else would try to take Namor's facial hair off with fire, reminding him of his old ally from his U-boat-tossin' days.

I've got no explanation for Cap going unrecovered, though.

I do like the idea of Fury being sent to Latveria to help Doom fight the Soviets.

Also, the original Swordsman against Galactus. There's a hilariously mismatched fight.

I like how Galactus and Surfer parted ways amicably here.

I thought the Watcher was a multiversal constant, though? Then again, I guess that doesn't mean that he can't die in some realities and live in others, if Unicron and the like have taught me anything.

Wow, so that's a self-insert angsty Galactus/Watcher deathfic that basically teaches us that enacting vengeance on our old rivals is a good thing!
