616 Nick Fury. Does ethically questionable things for what he perceives as the greater good.
Vs Max Nick Fury. Does objectively bad things and fantasizes about fucked up shit because of toxic masculinity and missing his old life as one of the Ball Fondlers
Which ones supposed to be the "mature" version again?
This miniseries actually has a pretty *honest* ending. This isnt a typical "hard man making hard decisions and gets narrative fellatio for it" Ennis book.
Honestly I think Ennis typically doesn't like his protagonists, but he's so obsessed with the "tough man" stereotype it's all he wants to write about. Sometimes his skill at actually critiquing them varies, but generally none of his main guys are supposed to good "good" or "cool". I mean, these scans even show Fury (maybe) let this happen, just so he could find some purpose in life again.
Having said that I maintain Ennis' best work is with Anna Kharkova, so maybe he should try and write against type more often.

Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
