While Betty is the obvious choice, I think that is far too easy. So that leaves us with whoever has dark black hair of reasonable length. Going on those clues I say it is the guy handing out drinks.
Actually, the popular consensus on the message boards is that it's Peter's new roommate, Michelle Gonzales, who also happens to be his former roommate, Vin Gonzales's sister. She's the other woman with Peter who is getting equally drunk and calling him a "sissy."
QUESADA: "See folks. This is why we got rid of that pesky marriage: so Peter Parker can have drunken, one-night stands with his hot and bitchy roommate. You know--for kids!"
Seriously, I was hoping Marvel wouldn't go this route of "the platonic roommates hooking up" with regards to Peter and Michelle (a.k.a. Vin with Boobs) because it seems like such an easy, cliched path to go down. Especially when you throw in the whole "I was so drunk I don't remember what I did last night" angle on top of it. Although, this wouldn't be the first time Mark Waid has used an overused device of having awkward moment involving sex for comedic effect commonly found in sitcoms. This was the same guy who had the "walking in on his parents doing it" scene with Peter accidentally finding his Aunt May in bed with J. Jonah Jameson Senior, after all.
Ok, I'll bite. Here's where we're all coming from. Take this story, say he's slept with his Hispanic roommate. Big twist for Parker, stepping over a line he hasn't before. And it works out in the comic. The date, she finds out he's Spider-Man, gets kidnapped by villains a few times (The few times with Doom were really good, had her yelling a storm at Doom, pointing out a good deal of flaws in his plan and SOP). They even get married, and go through a lot of stuff dealing with how she fits with a guy with superpowers. Spider-Man becomes known as a person who breaks a barrier between different groups of people.
Now throw ALL OF THAT AWAY. And start repeating the same stories as before while calling it all new. Remember, Peter was a geek who got a super-model to settle down with him, not because he was rich or overly good looking. Even powers didn't matter. It was what he did. He choose to be a hero, and MJ respected and loved that of him.
First: you're seriously claiming that this group would use "gay" as an (childish) insult?
Second: the opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy. That's where I am. I find it almost impossible to care about Spider-Man, or the unsympathetic loser currently starring in his title, since OMD.
You know, it's hard to see teasing the fans of the marriage with the return of MJ then immediately having Peter have a drunken, one night stand with someone else as anything other than spitefulness. It may be claimed to be an "unexpected twist", but it's twisting the character to something he's never been before just to slap people in the face with THIS RELATIONSHIP IS NO MORE. An organic relationship forming with someone else, chemistry with another character like Betty or Felicia from the pre-marriage days, that'd be one thing, but after the deliberate efforts to build up MJ's return, this doesn't seem so much soap opera as (another) considered attempt to piss the older readers off. And I'm bemused why Marvel are going to such effort to alienate their fanbase.
"Is this what a hangover feels like?" Is Peter a 12 year old now? I know that one key reason they did away with the MJ marriage is to stave off the possibility of Spider-Man aging and being out of touch with his perceived target demographic but a lot of the time he comes across as way younger than he has any right to be and occasionally a bit more of a loser than I ever think he's been despite how much he hits it off with his female supporting cast.
That said, I generally dig the art, MJ aside. Who's this?
