...I mean, not only is it a cheap jab, it's an old cheap jab. Batman vs. Superman was a year ago, Marvel, and Wonder Woman's kicking ass at the box office while you guys have yet to announce a Black Widow or Wasp or Scarlet Witch or anything female-led film yet, so maaaaaybe dial it back a bit there.
A year ago isn't that old, especially since Van Lente wrote the script for this mini about a year ago. Which means BvS would still be fresh and WW wouldn't have come out.
No offense, but people forget these comics are written months before they are published.
More importantly, this is the type of joke Deadpool would make, especially in a book titled "Deadpool vs the Punisher". You shouldn't take these thing so seriously anyway, DC and Marvel habe poked fun at each other since time immemorial.
I'm not super-offended or pissed off or anything. It's just like, really, Marvel? Really? Once was cute in an 'oooh, burn' way, but now it's just tired. Everybody and their grandmother has made fun of the whole 'Martha' thing by now. We get it. Seriously. BvS sucked, Marvel are the bestest. Please, move on.
Again, that's not what's going on here. It seems like you're blowing this out of proportion, since again, DC and Marvel habe poked fun at each other since time immemorial.
And yet you see it worth getting upset over. What you keep failing to understand that Marvel have make jokes about each other for decades and these jokes habe usually been done by writers that have worked for both companies. Neither sides takes it seriously and neither should you.
And again, with Deadpool it makes sense. Especially in a book called Deadpool vs Punisher.
Thank you, my guy, I really needed you to explain to me at length how wrong and uninformed I am for being mildly unamused by a tired joke in a comic book, that was just the missing highlight of my day. Truly, you've done a service to humanity.
It was a ridiculous moment, made more ridiculous by making it a major plot point. It goes alongside "I don't like sand" and "What happens to a toad when it gets hit by lightning" as lines that will be fair game until the heat death of the universe.
And I refuse to give DC/Warner credit for being first with a female superhero movie (Which they technically aren't, since Catwoman (In Name Only) and Elektra predate it by a decade), since they should've done it 20 years ago. Not making a Lucy Lawless WW movie will forever be one of the medium's great lost opportunities.*
*Yeah, I know she was Diana in New Frontier. That's not the same and you know it!
But then they would have had to make Renee O'Connor her girlfriend somehow. And that's just inconceivable. And terrible. Obviously.
(Also technically, if we go by that metric, Catwoman was in 2004 and Elektra was 2005, and Selina Kyle hops around Gotham, so DC still wins, if you call that winning. Also also, I just remembered/realized 20 years ago was 1997, which was really not that long ago, and now I feel ancient.)
This is like the fifth time in a Marvel comic they've made fun of this moment, and it stopped being funny the second. There was a lot more to that moment other than their mothers sharing a name.
As terrible as the movie was, (and the "Martha" scene was downright Shakespearean compared to any scene with Lex Luthor in it) it was pretty blatant about the fact that he was treating Superman as inhuman in order to justify his suspicion. He was expecting a similarly inhuman name for his mother, not a human one, least of all his own mother's.
None of this is meant to say it wasn't a crap scene poorly done, but it's just not the same as "no one else could possibly be named Martha."
I get that, but the way they executed the scene made it seem like he found it odd there were other women named Martha. Like you said, it was poorly done.
Yeah, it's a joke that's been done already, but it's exactly the sort of thing Deadpool would go off on a thing about, and it makes a nice setup for Frank's "Are you doing a bit? Do you even know?"
