And now we get to the end of the "Bridge of Tears" saga.

Shizukiri has Mayumi by his side as a hostage, but because of the way he plays it - posing as Usagi's friend -, she doesn't realize what's going on... until the Snitch opens his big mouth and says that the bunny "will be a tough one to kill".
Once it hits her, she tries to escape and alerts the innkeeper. Shizukiri lies (badly) but his appearance and countenance scare off the owner of the hotel.
After they leave, they follow Usagi from a distance. She tries to alert him but he doesn't hear it too well.

(I love the fire in her eyes. This is the Mayumi we first met, not the clingy one who becomes a thorn in Usagi's side).
Shizukiri finds the bodies Usagi and Chizu slew last issue and assesses the situation.

He binds Mayumi after that.
He follows Usagi's trail to the hut where Chizu took care of him. We see the events of #101 unfolding from the outside.

And we see Shizukiri with a bound Mayumi calling Usagi outside, like last issue's ending. He explains to Usagi that he was hired to kill him. He threatens to kill Mayumi if Usagi doesn't throw his swords away. He complies, Mayumi and Usagi discuss why he abandoned her, and the killer goes for him.

Usagi kills Shizukiri, who died wondering where did the bunny get the extra sword (from a dead ninja, pinned to the wall). But Mayumi is gone.

So, this is the ending we got. But, before we discuss the story, I want to show you the other ending Stan planned:

(Which would, you know, negate the whole saga altogether. Thankfully he chose to play it straightforward this time).
This story is collected in Usagi Yojimbo Volume 23: Bridge Of Tears and The Usagi Yojimbo Saga Book 6.
