In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat amongst yourselves.
Where to begin this week?
Zimbabwe perhaps , where their President for the last 30 years (by fair means or otherwise) Robert Mugabe has been ousted by means of a not quite military coup, but refuses to leave voluntarily, so a full impeachment process is underway.
The Apricot Hellbeast has put a hold on the import of elephant trophies, a day after rescinding the Obama era legislation which banned them. That might make for an awkward Thanksgiving dinner with his big game hunting kids.
But just to balance things out,
Republicans in Congress are being of accused of deliberately obstructing research on global warming by blocking attempts to keep an ongoing montioring program ongoing, including dismantling a fully prepared replacement satellite, which is now badly needed.German Chancellor Angela Merkel will, after failing to form a coalition government after the recent general election, run new elections, and hope that she can lead her party to a better position. We can only hope, as, the alternative is the likely increase of power of the Far Right. I may not agree with some of her politics, but she's the closest thing to a strong leader of the EU we currently have.
The country that gave you "Boaty McBoatface" as the popular choice to name a research vessel (Which was eventually named the RRS David Attenborough, though it's mobile submarine was indeed name Boaty McBoatface) now brings you
two new gritting machines for the city of Doncaster which will, after a poll which included Curtis Steiger's suggestion of "Grit Balls of Fire!", be known as "Gritsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Anti-Slip Machiney" and "David Plowie"
I mention this only to distract you from the Brexit shambles othewise engulfing the country, with, in a single day:
Way to go Brexiteers...
An object from beyond our solar system has been spotted, a 400m long needle which does not in any way look like an alien spacecraft trying not to be noticed. The Big Hero 6 cartoon series launched this week.
At the other end of the scale, Charles Manson is dead.
The first teaser trailer for The Incredible 2 has dropped as have
the first cast photos from "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2" "Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald" which includes Jude Law as the young Dumbledore.Della Reese, soul and gospel singer and perhaps best known for her role in "Touched by an Angel" has died at the age of 86.
Delia Derbyshire
has been awarded a posthumous honorary doctorate by Coventry University (her hometown). A groundbreaking pioneer in the field of electronic music from the 60's onwards, and perhaps best known for creating the iconic Doctor Who theme, based on a tune by composer Ron Grainer who retains sole writing credit because of the BBC's rules at the time, but bearing little actual similarity to it because of her radical techniques.
Someone by the name of Blake Shelton was voted "Sexiest Man Alive" by People Magazine. Now I have never met the gentleman in question (I'd never even HEARD of the gentleman in question) and I mean him no ill-will whatsoever, but... really? In a world where John Boyega, Jason Momoa and Idris Elba exist, THIS perfectly average looking guy is the "Sexiest Man Alive"? Ooooh-kay then...
"The Black Tapes" podcast, which built up a complex conspiracy-driven story over three seasons ended with what can only politely be described as a a serious "WTF was THAT?" episode which was just... words can't quite describe how much of a fizzle it was.
On the plus side, I've been enjoying a couple of new podcasts;
"The White Vault" (A team sent to investigate and repair a remote outstation in the snowy wastes of Norway find strange events unfolding under the ice) and "A Scottish Podcast" (Which is new to me, at least, and it's nice to hear something akin to my own accent in a podcast, though the constant stream of swearing, whilst accurate for the characters in question, might not appeal to all tastes). And The Bright Sessions (recent co-opted for a possible TV series) is back with a new season too!
It IS Thanksgiving this week, so those in the US taking time to be their families, have fun. For those having to endure time with their families, stay strong. For those not partaking at all, well, we're still here, and the rest of the world doesn't have Thanksgiving, so you're in good company.
