cyberghostface: (Spider-Man)
[personal profile] cyberghostface posting in [community profile] scans_daily

Ultimate Spider-Man was my first real experience with actually following a series. Prior to that my readership was generally once in a while grabbing a comic off the stands if the cover interested me. I started subscribing around the time #14 was out and continued religiously all the way until Ultimate End.

To this day the initial Bagley run is probably one of my favorite comic runs of all time. Going through my archives the old issues are still a lot of fun and more enjoyable than most of the stuff published today.

Don't have any specific moments that stand out as 'the best' but here is one of the funnier scenes from the book in #44.

A bonus scene from #49 in which Spidey meets up with Wilson Fisk over dinner:

I had the same experience with ultimate spiderman, it's still my favorite comic series of all-time. I especially love how bendis handled kingpin and made him an amazing adversary for peter. The scene where peter webs his feet to the floor in the restaurant still makes me crack up.

Yeah, that wasn't a fitting end for such a well written character. I actually didn't enjoy a lot of stuff in USM after Bagley left. In my head canon, USM just kimd of quietly ended after peter had that issue long conversation with may about being spiderman.

The part in the second volume, where he brings a list of insults to read off to Kingpin, was also pretty great.

I don't care what people say.. Ultimate Spider-Man was a damn near perfect superhero comic. It is endlessly rereadable.

Imagining Vincent d'Onofrio and Tom Holland performing any Ultimate Kingpin/Spidey scene works really well, unlikely as it would be.

Bendis had Flash Thompson's first name be "Fred" instead of "Eugene" for some reason. Also, Ultimate Flash was a full-on sociopath who bullied Peter because he was there, not because Flash had his own issues or thought Peter was stuck-up. And, of course, that kind of carried over to the 616 Flash Thompson, at least in "modern flashbacks."
