Stupid question Dick. Even when Bruce is disappointed in you, he's never REALLY disappointed in YOU...it's eveyone else that is a complete failure in his eyes lol
Isn't fear Batman's thing? Well, criminals fearing him. Normal people and other superheroes should NOT be afraid of Batman. Hopefully, he knows that in this new timeline,
I don't really applies here. Batman's point is more that the world already fears the Justice League considering they're basically gods, so it takes so much work not to give them more reason to fear them.
'That you're going to lead it' response really hit me in the feels. It also kind of salvages the scene as first I thought it was going really go with that hypocrisy angle before really showing what Bruce wanted for Dick.
Wait, I'm confused. I thought the Justice League was a team plagued with infighting (since well before Identity Crisis retconed most of them as secret monsters ... though the Nu52 made the more overt bickering the original status quo) than recently allowed Lex freaking Luther to blackmail his way onto the team. How do they have the moral high ground?
I really miss the days when Dick was seen as the best lead in the DCU.
DC comics wants it every way. They want everyone to love the JL when it suits them, fear it when it suits them.
There are times I wish the suits set a status quo and only hired people willing to write to it. But I prefer characterization and continuity to any sort of grand narrative, character growth or metaphorical storytelling
Maybe it’s just my issue (I tend to be most sympathetic to whoever the protagonist is by default), but I really don’t think the Titans deserves the chewing out they’re getting here.
Of course, one of the Titans’ big deals has always been that they’re a family first and a team second, so their priorities might be incompatible with the League’s.
The previous arc had been about an evil future version of Donna Troy, calling herself Troia, coming back in the usual "Your life is going to suck, you're immortal and you're going to watch all your friends die and are going to realise you should have, I dunno, taken over the world, and I'm here to save you the time by having you do it sooner rather than later"
I really, REALLY disliked this issue, the JLA swooping in like they are some sort of cosmically appointed adjudicators of the right of other teams to exist leaves a very, very sour taste.
Especially given the JLA has hardly been the embodiment of harmonious conduct, especially when it comes to team discipline. It's condescending and just... a bad story idea. IMHO.
Bruce critiquing Dick's leadership style is just... nope, don't go there Bruce. They don't interact like the JLA does, because they're not the JLA, they actually stay together because they LIKE each other, and Dick leads by trust (mostly). You don't get to say that that's not how it's done, at best you get to say that's not how you'd do it.
