Top 10 #7: Mythdemeanors

"I hadn't thought about [any similarity] until you mentioned it; now I'm completely terrified. If people feel it's like Astro City, then it's going to feel like Astro City, but they are very different ideas. They both feature a city that has a lot of superheroes in it, like from what I know of Astro City, Kurt Busiek has created a city that perhaps is like a more populous version of Metropolis. It's a normal city which has a higher than average rate of costumed crime fighters. Top 10 has a different feel - the book is about the sheer ridiculousness of having nobody but super heroes. There are no normal characters in Top 10 at all, so I don't see why they should be compared other than they both feature a city." - Alan Moore

Incidentally, the two civilian victims of the Ghostly Ghost described in previous issues were a woman getting out of a checkered cab and a woman flying over a railway station. We can assume the Goose was disguised as the cab or part of it, but how does the railway station tie into the checker theme? My guess is that Moore got his British/American culture mixed up. Railway station workers wave checkered flags in the UK, but I'm not aware of any such practice in the US.

Date: 2018-02-17 10:55 pm (UTC)As for the flags being outdated, I got nothing. But I can't think of a better explanation.
