"People were mad at me when we did this thing where he joined the Avengers to spy on them. I couldn’t figure out why he joined the Avengers, and the only thing that made any logical sense to me was to find out whether these people were a threat. Once he was comfortable they weren’t a threat, he felt OK helping them out from time to time. But his number one responsibility was Wakanda. You got Aquaman in the Justice League. You had Namor in the Avengers. None of that ever made any sense. These people have obligations that are larger than America or whatever the Avengers and Justice League are up to. I don’t have any particular agenda or loyalty beyond the eccentricities of the character and building logically from that." - Christopher J. Priest

Um, isn't the Justice League and Avengers primary mission is to save the world, which includes Wakanda and Atlantis? Hell, Namor joined the Invaders because Nazis were attacking Atlantis. Premier super hero teams seem to me that their obligations are bigger than countries, not the other way around.

Well it's been shown a couple of times 616 T'Challa generally doesn't give a shit about people outside his country so I guess this is in character for him.

I was actually mostly referring to the quote. Though I guess that is in character for Namor too.

That's kind of his point, though. The team's duties *are* bigger than a single nation, so how can a sitting ruler find the time to be a regular member?

How does one rule a nation while living in a mansion in New York? (Well, easier these days than in the 60s, but you get my point.) Presumably, the day to day activities of ruling a country would preclude one from hanging out with Steve in the Avengers training gym.

In practice, Namor or T'Challa should be reservists who only show up when things are just that dire or when their skills or interests are particularly needed/represented in the crisis at hand.

Was the apartment on a lower floor, or how did that ice cream truck get up to that floor?

I'm loving the writing but did this run have any consistent art?

...maybe not? This particular artist is leaning so hard into "Black Panther is Batman" it's distracting.

I thought it might have been a 'Batman Adventures' parody at first.

I love how ticked off everyone looks in the last panel. Also, is it me or does Iron Man's suit have bulging muscles drawn on it?

Iron Man's older suits had muscles on them, probably just because super heroes are expected to have 'em.
I guess you could say it's padding or parts based on the structure of musculature for increased yet naturally intuitive movement.
I do have a soft spot for the muscle-suits, I'll admit.

Well, no one is shouting "I HATE YOU! I'VE ALWAYS HATED YOU!" Not yet, anyway. So, maturity?
