I just realized: has Nighthawk (or anyone else, for that matter) lampshaded the unfortunate implications of someone of the Blur's race gaining super speed?

I remember the first mini, written by Mark G.

I'm more impressed, years later, seeing how much nuance and skill he had in his mini, with far greater restrictions compared to what we have in these minis

That's the impressive thing. The original mini looks very dated in terms of artwork and the dialogue reads very 'bronze age', if you take my meaning. But the actual things dealt with in the series are handled much more subtly and with a lot more nuance than most comics do, even today. It felt like the characters were actually wrestling with actual moral conflicts, even if they wore their hearts on their sleeves most of the time.

You really got the sense that the path to Hell was paved with good intentions as they kept falling down the slippery slope.

Oh, it gets better (for lack of a better word). Their main lesbian character is revealed only to be gay because she was raped.

Yeah, it's not a good look. IIRC, the character was originally white and called the Golden Archer, until he did a little bit of the old mind-wash on his Black Canary expy and got drummed out of the Squadron. That's when he took up the mantel Black Archer.
