Richard C. Meyer(of Diversity & Comics fame)’s successfully crowdfunded throwback to 1990s comics (raising over $200,000) will no longer be published by Antarctic Press. The reasons given are mixed: the company said that various retailers and comic shops were being harassed and bullied by fans for refusing to stock the book out of protest of Meyer’s controversial stance and actions while also being uncomfortable with his stance on certain comic creators, while Mr. Meyer insists that prolific writer Mark Waid bullied the publisher into dropping the title.

What are your thoughts? I’ve never been the biggest fan of his channel (to put things lightly), but I think that’s a shame about the physical release. I hope both he and his audience are happy with the book, at least.

If you’re interested in Jawbreakers: Lost Souls, you can find the title here.

Now they'll either:

1) Self publish as most people would. (If they're serious about getting the comic out.)
2) Whine incessantly and bother/troll people. (If they only needed a reason to do that again.)

My money is on #2, but I would like them to pleasantly surprise me.

I'm guessing he'll claim he's working on #1, pocket people's money without creating a product, then double down on #2.

Just because that happened with Alt-Hero, there's no reason it'll happen with this one.

Don't forget #3) loudly wail about being victimized by the liberals trying to suppress their free speech, then start up a gofundme to bilk conservatives and other assholes into paying them for doing nothing at all.

Ah yes. Because, as we all know, Mark Waid has enough weight in the comics industry to basically force a publisher to not publish a book he doesn't like... I mean, if Meyer claimed it was Marvel or DC it would still be absurd, but at least I could believe they had the pull to do so...

I once clicked on Diversity and comics because the title sounded intriguing. I was grossly wrong, Kind of glad this is happening.

Is $38 dollars a lot of money for 112 pages of comics?

Because that's the average price that people are paying for it.

Using the tremendously basic approach of "divide amount pledged by number of backers", that's the average price that people are paying for Job Rakers. I assume that people are spaffing money on this project to own the libs.

And the best adjective that Meyer could find to describe it is "conventional".

Please be under no illusion: I think that RCM is a one man bellend convention.

Hmm. Well, in lieu of running afoul of S_D's "Don't insult creators" policy, let me just say that I appreciate the decision of Antarctic Press not to business with this... individual.

Whilst parts of this thread are skirting that very fine line, we do permit a little extra leeway when the language is used in calling out problematic behaviour, attitudes or actions.

When a creator like Richard C. Meyer takes the time to say in a video that

"We really need a world war and a draft. We need high casualties. We need stuff like this winnowed out of society. This guy is -- let's look at his picture -- Yeah, we'll get him on a nice artillery crew. He's probably good at math, he's good at doing range tables. Tragically taken out by enemy counter-battery fire. Nice medal to his mom. Never has to explain why he was never married to a woman. Yeah. Yeah, that would settle it up*

in reference to a gay writer, Sina Grace, we can safely say that he can get fucked.

Meyer is a stain on the community and has managed to whip up support from other shitheads with little to offer, other than a desire to put comics back to a fake idea of how they used to be (when the women were there to be pinups, and the minorities stayed in their lanes)

Did you read the *?

It's based on a Simpsons line, and extended to say that death in combat with a medal would avoid having to come out to your mum.

I don't agree with censorship, but having heard D&C's constant hysterics and casual use of racial slurs in his videos - I cannot muster much sympathy at all for him.
I mean, he made a name for himself ragging on other creators and ripping up their work - literally ripping it up on camera - and doing it in the most graceless and humorless way imaginable. He can't really play the victim now.
