When Black Panther Was Good...

scans_dailyChristopher Priest is a good writer and it's a shame he doesn't work more. Some of the art is a bit...iffy but the story is still good.
This volume of the Black Panther begins with T'Challa in exile and there's turmoil in Wakanda (haven't read this in years but posting this is helping me remember and I think there's some cool stuff going on). Everett K. Ross is basically his escort.
Everett K. Ross is in his underwear on a toilet with a gun pointed at a rat, whom he names Busta (my chops)--but that's on another page and I don't have enough room for that. As a first page things don't get much better than this. He very much came across as an officious little prick but he grows on you.
Mostly, this was posted for the "they took my paints" line.
There are some people who need to be taught how to show a little respect. And be shocked. Preferably at the same time.
Because everyone loves seeing Amazonian teenagers kick butt. Those guys should be thankful their alive.
Well, between you and me, my inane and useless commentary is starting to bug (also, thinking hard, morning early) so I'll just let the next two pages speak for themselves.

Date: 2009-08-18 01:06 am (UTC)Which is also very loosely plotted and entirely too busy, with some sloppy-ass character work, none of which are standard Priest failings, so it was clearly a bad couple months' work for him all around. Still, even post-name-change (post-Katma-fridging etc), Priest comes across more a Brubaker than a Rucka as far as gender goes, so a relatively minor sort of ick like sexualizing the Dora even while the point of them is that T'Challa refuses to use or see them that way doesn't really shock me.
