Okay. Steretypes and the whole..."this is Avatar Press" aside, This does seem to tap the "The walking dead are not the zombies" thing that made TWD work.
I’m so confused about the depiction of the Crossed between stories.
Sometimes they’re just evil versions of regular people who are equal opportunity in the people they target, whether Crossed or not Crossed, and retain the skills, memories and abilities they had pre-infection. Other times, they’re tribalistic, impulsive, barely intelligble savages obssessed with sex and cussing who lose all sense of their former selves, including said skills, memories and abilities.
Yeah, they’re still scary (varying quality of stories notwithstanding), but I’d prefer they be a bit more consistent in how they operate and behave. If I die in or to The Walking Dead, I know I’m going to become a mindless, shambling corpse only interested in the next meal. If I get assimilated by the Cybermen or the Borg, I’ll become a drone existing only to assimilate and conquer for them. If I get Crossed, do I just turn into an evil version of me or do I become a zombie?

Can't comment on the rest, but this was answered by the scans in one of the other Crossed posts - it's specifically referred to as a rash...and it's pretty similar in appearance to some of the eczema-rashes I've had - just with a very specific location and extent.
I've only read dribs and drabs of the series, but I have a good friend who's very much a fan. Apparently the inconsistencies are kind of a meta part of the story, and the readers aren't supposed to be able to discern much "definitively" about the infection. It's even left entirely unclear as to whether it's of supernatural or biological make (with conflicting stories as to its' origins).
And apparently if you get Crossed, you get turned into you without any inhibition, morality, or self-control whatsoever. It basically makes whatever "dark side" you have completely dominant. Apparently rare individuals (like "Smokey" from the example a few weeks back) are able to retain a bit more of that "self control" portion, but most pretty much become sewer-mouthed savage psychopaths who do everything on a whim. You still have your memories (You'll recognize people you knew before you were Crossed, and events that happened, at the very least), and usually your skills, but in the latter case you often can't be assed to actually use them because you're too easily distracted by opportunities to commit garish violence.

Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
