In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat amongst yourselves.
POTUS 45, twice the ego and half the IQ of regular Presidents, has dismissed Bob Woodwards book on his time in office (so far) and promised to write his own... I assume it'll come with a little box of crayons to colour in the pictures, though based on past experience, even that may be tricky.
Chaos reigned more than usual as an anonymous Senior Administration source within the White House wrote an Op-Ed piece for the New York Times about how they are subverting him and trying to prevent him doing too much damage. Whether this is a noble act of rebellion, or dangerous precedent of usurping elected authority is still being discussed, and I suspect will be for years to come.
The UK has had to deal with Boris Johnson being Boris Johnson, normally a fate I wouldn't wish on anyone, but I think he's earned it. His wife has kicked him out, his ill-considered, and tastelessly phrased (to say the least), diatribes have been vilified by even the Right Wing media, except The Sun, and his constituency may cease to exist in boundary changes are agreed (And no one will convince me that Theresa May didn't enjoy a brief, if wintery, snmile at the idea of that AND former Brexit Secretary David Davis's constituency suffering the same fate)
Controversy surrounds the actions and reactions of Serena Williams and an umpire at the US Open final
The Indian Supreme Court has struck down an old Colonial-era statute banning same sex relationships and banning discrimination based on sexual orientation.
A new teaser for Doctor who, confirming the launch date of Season 11 as October 7th has aired. Maybe a LITTLE heavy handed as far as metaphors go, but I'll give them one, and the "Whoops!" sells it in a very Doctor-y fashion. Also interesting to note that it's now been moved to a Sunday, which is the BBC's "Prestige Drama" evening, so they are serious about this. Also, this is likely to allow an earlier, more family oriented timeslot. TV landscapes having changed since 2005, Saturday night has been overtaken by the likes of Strictly Come Dacing, which is a couple of hours long, and meant that Doctor Who was pushed to a later and later timeslot, allowing more mature stories perhaps, but doing no favours to the family viewership that it had once had.
At long last, Carapace has debuted in Miraculous Ladybug, in the new Ananasi episode!
The next Kingdom Hearts game will include a big Hero 6 world
Finished Disenchantment and remain... somewhat unengaged. I appreciate the world building but this should not have been ten episodes long, given anything approaching an actual story arc didn't kick in until episode seven or so.
Also finshed "Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas" anime, and do understand why it being cancelled mid arc like that still rankles.
A teaser for Netflix' She-Ra and the Princesses of Power has aired. giving us a first look at the animation style in motion (same animation studio as Voltron I believe)
And speaking of Netflix, their new series; "The Dragon Prince", from the creators of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" debuts this Friday.
And "Happy New Year!" to those celebrating Rosh Hashanah.

Date: 2018-09-11 10:33 am (UTC)gave an interview with Sky News saying that he's own party "Has become an institutionally racist organisation"

This coming just days after a Iranian TV station (that is banned in UK) was "Somehow" able to live-tweet a local party meeting (Which shouldn't be open to the press at all) passing a vote of no confidence in the Enfield North MP, Joan Ryan(Labour MP since 1997).
Beliving she was targeted her because of her support for Israel and for being critical of the Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn over his stance on antisemitism within the Party.

Date: 2018-09-11 11:00 am (UTC)The shorter length is definitely something in its favour, and Danny himself is more tolerable (not as tolerable as he was when he popped up in Luke Cage, mind), with less Dangst.
Though the last episode brings one or two little irritants.
Mostly that the show has a thing for "here's a cool idea. But we don't have the budget for it, so we'll just tell you about it. That's the same as seeing it, right?"

Date: 2018-09-11 11:11 am (UTC)Last night, as a tribute to the late Burt Reynolds, a local theatre held a free showing of Smokey and the Bandit. I saw it with my mother & one of her friends, and there was a pretty good turnout for it.
I'm in three D&D meatspace games now! Two campaigns run by one guy on Sundays, and one run by me every other Thursday (I've not DMed in over a decade!), all held at a local cards/games/miniatures shoppe. They've been a lot of fun.

Date: 2018-09-11 12:00 pm (UTC)Tbh the main reason I’m thinking of watching it is that Beechen appears to be in no way, shape or form associated with it. I strongly suspect his puppy chocked to death on a Starscream toy or something like that, because dude always goes out of his way to screw over Starscream (and I mean ridiculously out of his way, like “Starscream is literally minding his own business in a different galaxy and is in no way involved with the current plot, but a deus ex machina calls him back just in time to make a two second cameo that drops a bridge on him”). He has done that in TF Animated, the Prime movie, Robots in Disguise, and that terrible Machinima series.
I liked Disenchantment. I hope S2 comes out soon, I want to know what happens next.

and
Memory
I'm not sure about the overall tone, in particular how Bee seems to be displaying something that might be viewed as being less amnesia, and more something along the lines of a neurological condition, whereby his physical body is inpabale of processing commands from his brain in a typical fashion. So his inner conscisouness seems like his old self, and is capable of fully coherent telepathic conversation with Windblade, but his physical body is stuck with movie-style radio and TV signals instead of speech, zero impulse control, and can't fight the way he normally would. If it's addressed like that it, and properly, it might be fascinating, but I'm not sure that's what they're going for.
I don't recall Starscream getting short shrift in TFA at least, as he was a major player throughout, but I may be misremembering.

Date: 2018-09-11 04:51 pm (UTC)I mean it works in a movie cause you've got the budget to actually sample songs and comercials that are recognisable but in Cyberverse they simply have him using different vocalized words as if he's cutting up commercials and it is really freaking irritating.

Date: 2018-09-11 12:18 pm (UTC)Just started watching the Iron Fist show, and so far I don't see what everyone is complaining about. Of course the "story arc" structure works against it and it would be better as an "adventure-of-the-week" style of show, like Classic Knight RIder and the A-Team were. I feel some sharper editing and less lingering reaction or establishing shots would help.
The She-Ra teaser trailer doesn't give us a lot to go on, but I don't see where all the complaining about animation style is coming from (have they never seen a Filmation show?). The character looks and moves like an actual person, as opposed to either walking stiffly while stoned, or being a pudgy blob with noodle arms, so I am not getting upset with that. I do feel a little sad that they are going with the character as an early teen/tweenager, but mainly because I feel that there is a dearth of adult role models for children on tv right now. I feel they need some more functional adults as role models to aspire to. Of course, thanks to the antics or the 4chan and reddit assholes you can't say that in a fanforum because you'll just be accused of getting upset at not having masturbation material.
I do feel that a "story arc" structure will work against the show and it would be better as an adventure-per-episode style of show, like She-Ra, or He-Man were. And they need to make sure the editing is sharp, without lots of lingering reaction or establishing shots.

Date: 2018-09-11 02:17 pm (UTC)A few months ago it was Tilt Araiza on Room 404 talking about how fed up he is of stories where the hero is the victim.
Now I'm reminded on a daily basis that Vi Hart was right about everything (I'll expand on this when I get home)
How to ruin everything in seven steps
Date: 2018-09-11 05:33 pm (UTC)We don’t listen to stories when we browse online. We tell ourselves stories. We all want to take part in the fiction where we can pretend that we’re better than other people
1 Create a group identity around a shared belief
2 Create a body of rhetoric (including multiple layers)
3 Spread the word and recruit followers/Start Beef and gain enemies
4 Make your group members feel like the scum of the earth and that everybody hates them
5 Escalate
6 The enemy’s beliefs and feelings can be completely dismissed
7 Benevolent dictatorship
A lot of the online discussions that I end up in (Brexit, Comicsgate) follow these patterns.
Vi Hart was right about toothpaste and is more right about this

Date: 2018-09-11 10:01 pm (UTC)This is a confusingly written sentence...I assume that the Indian court has banned discrimination, but, as written, it sounds like the law they overturned did (illogical though that is).
That said, hooray for India.
