Exactly: that can be passed off as a beta, but if he gets this right this time then that's worth all the awfulness he goes through. That's the classic manipulator/schemer's downfall, like with Henry Gyrich, or Maria Hill, or Francis Urquhart, or Mara Sov, etc.
