I wonder if kids watching the MCU now even remember who Coulson was, assuming they don't watch Agents of SHIELD.

It's a pretty safe bet that the first Avengers movie is still getting plenty of views at this point.

"No one from America"? There are at least three Iron Man suits in the room with you. He may not be an official representative of the US government (anymore), but Tony Stark is still a pretty big figure in the American superhero community.

I mean, 'Tony Stark trusts me enough to let me borrow Iron Man suits for menial labor' is also a pretty strong message about T'Challa's relationship with the American superheroes.

... Really? You bring back Coulson for this?

The thing is, he doesn't even sound like Coulson-turned-bad. We've seen plenty of corrupted fanboys in pop culture (and, um, real life) in the last ten years. Syndrome, Kylo Ren. If you wanted to sell me on the idea of evil Coulson, I could be into it.

But this guy just sounds like a dull jerk reciting continuity talking points or, at best, a soulless shell who didn't really "come back" from death in spirit and has been molded to someone else's intent. Which is a lot less compelling than seeing the guy fans loved turned bad.

But I've never really been into Coulson being alive after the 2012 movie in the first place, so I imagine others will be more disappointed than I was.

That's pretty much my stance. Between the monologues, the torture and murder, burning the cards and declaring 'God Bless America', this is a paint by numbers Dark and Edgy Coulson. It's so bland and unnecessary.

Granted, he has a point in that as an Agent of SHIELD he probably did get his hand bloody before this and him becoming disillusioned with Super Heroes because of what happened to him in Secret Empire isn't far fetched.

Not a big fan of the Coulson turn. Then again, he's been around for how long now? Maybe it was time for something new.

Do we have any idea who he shot?

I haven't been following the new series. Who did Coulson kill? Obviously wasn't General Ross (who was also murdered recently). I'd guess Henry Gyrich. but I doubt it.

Look, you can't just draw Brian Braddock as Oliver Queen!

Cool to see Shaman from Alpha Flight, though.

I like that Jason Aaron is drawing in all sorts of characters from various corners of the Marvel universe in this run. It's big and weird and even a little silly but I'm enjoying it.

I'm already dreading the day when he stops writing it and the Avengers disband and reform yet again under another writer who undoubtedly will insist on taking them back to basics yet again. (So... next year? says the cynical part of me...)

Oh, wow. Squadron Supreme. Yeh, controlling those guys ALWAYS works, doesn't it? Like, they've had to turn in their ten punch free redemption mind control cards like, five times by now.

In issue 10/700 it's the Squadron Supreme of America at the reveal: Hyperion, Warrior Woman, Doctor Spectrum, the Whizzer, and Nighthawk.
