I was sort of thrown by the references to Bart and Tim being friends in this continuity, when Bart only entered it recently. Have they actually met on panel in the current continuity?
Given the mentions of the many Crisis' the DCU has suffered, I think the flexible history is a plot point being shamelessly exploited to get the gang back together. Bart reappeared, so Tim and Cass return to their natural state of dealing with him.
"It's happening!" "Bart, we have talked about this!"
Oh, thank God. What was bad and wrong has finally been fixed.
As a bonus, now that Kon is finally back, I can start reading the Supersons comics. That series looks awesome and I always wanted to give it a try, but I was super salty over the way DC ditched Kon, so refused to give them any money for the new Superboy. If Kon if back, nothing is holding me back anymore from appreciating Jon.
I am still a bit bitter over how everyone claims that Jon is the "right" Superboy because he is the "real" son of Superman unlike Kon who is "only" a Clone so... I might still wait a bit to read Supersons. But I totally get you.
I so get where you are coming from. It's like when they act that only Damian is Bruce's son because he is the biological one. Some writers and fans seem to think that Dick, Jason and Tim were only there to keep the seat warm.
Exactly! Adoptive sons are sons too! And Conner IS biologically related to Clark, so it's not as if that idea of "only biological sons count" applies to him. Oh, but he's also a Lex Luthor clone so doesn't count because h'es not LOIS's son. UGH
I think a better reason he doesn't count is that Superman never met him until he was a teenager (yes, yes, artificial aging, I know) and he typically doesn't show any desire to be regarded as a son. As family yes, but he doesn't seek a son-father dynamic.
Except when he did want to be regarded as his son (you know, when Clark shipped him to his parents) and the ton of kids who are adopted well into teenager-hood or meet their birth parents in teenage years and want to be part of the family. And that still doesn't mean "he's not worthy of the name Superboy because he's not the TRUE SON and really DESERVING of the Superman legacy" (actual thing some readers have told me)
The difference I do find with Damian is that, while Damian's position as "Batman's Son" seem to be based solely on the fact he is Bruce's biological son whom he discovered years later after Bruce had, like, three sons (and depending on the continuity and who you ask, up to 3 daughters). Jon... was actually raised by Clark and Lois from birth. Likewise, as other people people have mentioned, Connor's relationship with Clark (who definitely see each other as family) is often closer to a brotherly one than father-son in a similar fashion as to how Kara is perfectly comfortable being Clark's cousin and Jon's aunt.
Now, that being said, Clark HAS had children before, most notable being Chris Kent. So there is that.
But Clark's relationship with Kon was never exactly fatherly, was it? If anything, Chris Kent being Chuck Cunninghamed out of existence is a bigger sticking point for me.
Supersons is amazing, and you should definitely give it a read. I believe they have a mini-series going now too, and it's just as fun as the series. Now, I don't know what's going on with Jon becoming a teenager out of nowhere, but you shouldn't let that deter you.
I can't wait to see how they explain just how the heck this fits into the current state of continuity. Tim, Cassie, Kon, Bart, Young Justice coming back together, etc.
Why seven, anyway? Marvel threw in the 'seven reality resets' thing so they could have an excuse to canonise Iso-8. But with DC, I could think of maybe...four, at most?
Also, am I the only one who thinks the Kon/Bart pic at the bottom looks like they're about to kiss? Because, yeah. The only way it could make my heart soar more is to replace Bart in that pic with Tim
