It always fascinates me reading the early DD where he's a swashbuckler firing off wisecracks Spider-Man would envy. Yet writers keep tending to follow the gritty lead of Miller (whereas Waid showed how light-hearted DD can work) and sometimes go a bit far.
I started buying Daredevil during Miller's run so I missed the issues you're talking about. I loved that time but I got really tired of seeing it revisited during Bendis and Brubaker's runs. That was why I loved Waid's tenure on the series because it seems he was touching base with the era you're talking about.
To be honest I didn't like Soule's time at all and quit because 1) I was digging what Waid laid down and wished we could have seen a continuation of that and 2) they gave Matt his secret identity back and I felt there was still a lot more mileage to be had from that plot element.
Motto. Silver Age Daredevil was a bit wacky, tbh. Like 'Iron Man has rocket roller skates' levels of it. Stilt-Man and all that. It's one reason that the slow shuffle to more serious worked; Miller didn't suddenly take Daredevil serious, but when he took over, he dived into it unabashedly. Bendis run worked for me because it was different than Miller's run, though I think it went on a bit too long.
Waid's run embraced a more four-color approach. It wasn't silly and naive, just more light-hearted and willing to be an actual superhero comic, instead of a street-level crime comic. Bendis would never have a blinded Daredevil trying to escape Latveria and Doctor Doom's evil accountant, for example.
The deluge of #1's is certainly an issue (no pun intended), but honestly, I don't mind it as much when it's a new creative team. When it's, say, Jason Aaron's run where there are at least four separate #1's with the same creative team? Yeah, that's a problem.
