The protagonists - Venom, the Red Hulk, X-23, and the Ghost Rider - had fought their Antitheses.
The Ghost Rider'd beaten hers, and now faced the son of Mephisto, Blackheart.
His voice was in her head, promising her absolution in return for her service - allow the corner of Hell that he'd brought into Las Vegas to spread over the world, and he'd restore the souls that she'd unjustly blasted to Hell.
He also offered her a place at his right hand.
" You offering me a one-time deal is one thing..
" .. but the Spirit of Vengeance serves no one.
" And I don't recall agreeing to work for you. "

The other Antitheses - the Evangelist, Encephalon, and X-666 - left their beaten enemies at Blackheart's command to confront the Ghost Rider.
The Evangelist smiled at her.
" You can't beat the three of us, Alejandra, and, let's face it..
" You belong with us more than you do with them.
" God's Spirit of Vengeance you may be, but you carry demon inside you. "

Venom and Rulk went for round two, switching opponents.
Rulk, smashing the Evangelist in the ground, laughed.
The Evangelist slipped behind him: " You feel your fists are stronger than Hell? "
Pages from his book shot out from his hands and through Rulk.
" You are a fool. "
Rulk keeled over, a hole in his chest.
He collapsed dead.
Encephalon lunged for the Ghost Rider, tearing her open.
Venom told her to keep on the tail of Blackheart's girlfriend, who was heading for the thing Johnny Blaze'd set up to prevent Hell's overgrowth on Earth.
She left.
He turned to the Evangelist and Encephalon, guns blazing.
Meanwhile, X-23 was confronting Blackheart, who'd made symbiote-enhanced clones of her.

The floor gave way underneath her.

Flash diverted the Evangelist's attack.

Hands caught his neck.

Alejandra crawled towards the amulet - towards Doctor Strange and Daimon Hellstrom, doing their best to help it keep the spreading Hell in check.
She reached out for it.
" That amulet is all that's holding Hell back from engulfing this planet.
" Put it back on that sign. Now! " yelled Strange.
The amulet burned in her grasp.

Date: 2019-08-14 04:03 am (UTC)The Spirit of Vengeance was taken from Johnny Blaze and given to her as part of a scheme to burn all the sin out of the world.
(The incident with the souls that Blackheart's tempting her with was a test run for that.)
She was manipulated, and she eventually broke free of that manipulation. As of this, Ghost Rider's status quo was " she's the Ghost Rider, and powerless Johnny Blaze is teaching her how to handle that. "
(Her series ended with Johnny getting the spirit back, and her being left with a fraction of its power. She said something about getting vengeance, so possibly she's Vengeance now.)
