I have a harder time believing that MJ wouldn't call the cops on Screwball. Didn't she kill a bunch of people with Arcade?

Nope! In the last Electra series she helped Arcade kill a bunch of civilians in his Murder World.

Its really baffling that someone would "borrow" a character like that and then use them in a way that is totally contrary to the character. I mean, it makes sense to pull Kingpin and the Punisher away from Spider-Man because their established characterizations make them a better fit for Daredevil anyway; it would be weird if they begged the Spider-Man editor for Venom and made him a mob boss.

(Yes, I remember the Mark Millar mobster Venom. Even the story itself presented that as a terrible idea.)
